dudes!! look what i found. i thought id share it
http://elpaso.en.craigslist.org/cto/2945830991.html 10,000 original miles!!! 1982 Chevy silverado short wide bed that has been stored since the 1980's, it is original down to the tires. It has power windows, power door locks, tilt steering, Cruise Control and Ice Cold Air Conditioning. This truck has NOT been restored it is ORIGINAL and runs excellent. The truck sat outside under a car port for the first 3 years of it's life and aftes that it was inside, the dash has a few cracks on it, the headliner is sagging, the top of the roof and a few other places need to be spot painted and the tires are dry rooted. it is in El Paso Texas 915-479-3762 |

Kinda pricey for that. It doesn't mention it so I'd assume it's a 305 and not a 350??? Neat find though.

Those are not the original tires. The Whitewalls are too wide.
Other than that (and the added stripe at the feature line), looks great! K

I was thinking the same, why would the roof need touch up if stored and covered since new.

don't matter on the little things on that truck. If you want a truck with no rust, this is it.
We all know it takes time to replace rockers, floor boards..etc. Just my opinion. |

Re: dudes!! look what i found. i thought id share it
More than likely. GM has had paint issues for years, long before this truck was built. Especially if built on the West coast, as California plants used different paints than other plants in the mid West. Cars/trucks built out West always had paint issues crop up. Then in the 80's and 90's they had a clear coat peeling problem that seemed to affect every car and truck no matter where it was built.

I can tell you originally living in Cincinnati,,,these trucks (70's and 80's vintage) aren't around out there anymore. They fell apart within 10 years Actually anything West of the Mississippi for that matter. That's why for 25+ years, I always came out West to buy my vehicles. |

Re: dudes!! look what i found. i thought id share it
living upstate IL for 20+ years, i've seen my share of rusty vehicles. reason i stated i would pay 10k for johns truck is i know the truck well. all i see there is pics. now if i were to get a personal look it may be a different story. i just can't see myself paying 10k for a truck i've just seen pics of across the net. just my opinion.

true, 10grand is nothing to sneeze at.

That's what I do, jump on a plane and go. Never buy sight unseen. In your case you wouldn't have to, it's listed in your area.

Yup, and i don't the cash for it either. lol!
Last year there was a 1986 step side 4x4 for 7grand. It sold, now its half a mile from where i live. That truck was also one owner low mileage original paint. The new owner has it parked in his car port with other classic trucks. |

BUT I will say if you are looking for a nicer older truck and don't want to spend the time building one and really want a shortbed 4x2 silverado you better be on the way to look at it. All you have to do is figure what it will cost in parts to buy nice orginal GM metal (or even find/pay for new GM) time and money to take apart and reassemble the truck. Here's what I see in parts alone... IF this is a super rust free truck as advertised. The bare bed worth $3500, (the last shortbed I sold last fall was a rust free bed that needed several days in the body shop to fix dents and flaking paint and I got $1800 for it and the guy was not a body guy and would have to pay full price to fix) the tailgate $4-500, The complete cab $2500, the front clip $5-750, motor $450, Trans/rearend/frame $250 each. Bumpers $100 each. Basicly $8.5k in parts easily. I could sell the Bed/cab/clip tonight if I had them here. I would sell the motor and trans in a couple days for sure. The rest I would sit on for a couple weeks... if that. $500 in paint work would make this truck what looks to be a super nice driver... Plus the price of tires, I hate those whitewalls... lol. I could see $12k as a fair price. Anything else would be a deal. Last edited by esbstuff; 04-10-2012 at 10:45 PM. |

Converter and muffler look stock. Two years ago I had the exhaust replaced on my 86, it had the same style. But you never know.

In places like Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, California, the stuff is much cheaper, because it's everywhere. That's why I think the price is somewhat high for that truck, it's in El Paso, Texas where things don't rust. Take it back East however to Ohio or Kentucky for example, and you'll get more money for it. Wouldn't be the first time I've done that Another catch is these Westerners tend to like their short bed trucks out here, back East it's more about long beds. Not sure why the popularity differences, but I've noticed it living in both areas for many years. I can sure appreciate a nice rust free vehicle though. Personally I'd pay more money for a rust free vehicle and no drivetrain, than a clapped out body and fresh drivetrain. Some people are the opposite. |

Re: dudes!! look what i found. i thought id share it
I could believe 10,000 miles. My truck has 58,000 original miles according to the second owner who I bought it from, and it looks like it's been to hell and back and it leaks oil where ever it wants to.

Re: dudes!! look what i found. i thought id share it
The asking price is a chunk of change, but really may be a bargain. When you start tallying up the cost of restoring even a mildly rust truck(cab corners, rockers, rear wheel wells, and paint) costs add up pretty darn quick(and the DIY guys should value their time at some amount, even if it isn't the $75+ per hour most body shops charge).
