Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

I want to know where members that post that truck should be $4-5k as I want to go buy trucks where they live. That truck looks clean and with a new crate motor it is in the $8-9k range all day long...

Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

I ended up passing on the truck. I went with cash in my pocket for full asking price but walked away. It turned out the motor had 10k more in mileage and IMO was not worthy of 8k. The paint and wax build build up , etc was not to my liking. It was a clean truck but I expected a little more. .On the flip side I may be the new owner of an 85 El Camino. I will know in a few days as the owner is overseas.

Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

8k was pretty steep. It might have been worth that if it was an 87 tbi. What made you want an el camino? My dad had a couple when I was little.

Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

I recently looked at a truck that was very comparable in condition to this truck. It had a fast burn zz4 in it which had a spun bearing... Basically you are buying a vehicle that doesn't run... He wouldn't budge below six grand... I walked away. MINT condition swb's in this area (usually with headers etc) go for 15,000+.

My first vehicle was an 81 El Camino I had it for five years and we swapped the 229V6 or a 350. My wife and I who have been married 20 years and dated in my El Camino so I do have a special place for them. My Dad (not a gearhead at ALL) had a 69 396/ss when I started kindgarten and I used to ride behind the seat at times.

This El Camino found me and I think I can resell it once I get my 85 or burb up and running and make money or break even. It is a clean ride. If I get it I will post some pics.

Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

Here are some pics. I paid 14k for this one. I just sold my 02 Tahoe last month after owning it for 14 mos and 32k miles. I got everything I paid for it plus TT&L.This thing drives and looks like new. It has the 5.3.

In IL. these old trucks are rusted out. It is worth $8,000 or more. I am asking $12,000 for mine. I don't care if I sell it or not.

Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

Very nice truck and while 8K is at the top of the range, I would say go for it if you want it! Looks like it wouldn't take much to get it to show condition. Does it drive as nice as it looks?

It seems to run good and the ac was cold. It was more like a $6500 truck to me and he wasn't budging.

I love the Yukon I picked up instead. It looks and drives like new. I still have the 72 Burb and 72 SWB so I have some toys. I am going to put the 85 back on the market tomorrow. The truck is in Lindale if you are interested.

Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

I saw the ad on CL and thought about looking at it. Agree with you on the price range and expect there's some sentimental dollars there from the seller. Is 8K his bottom line?

Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

after seeing how everyone says that around their areas these trucks are going around the 4-5K i dont feel bad for having paid 3800 for the 85 i bought about 5 months ago. i was having second thoughts on whether i should have. here are a few pics of it. granted mine did not have a crate engine it is only a 305 but it is still very solid and only 69K on it. i did want a 350 but most of what i could find was very damaged or more expensive. that yukon does look good and if you already have the other toys i guess it was a good choice on passing on the 86.

They keep lowing the price in the ad but the bottom dollar I could get was
$8k.

Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

these trucks are only going up in price. IMO they are going to be up there with the 1st gen camaros, chevelles and mustangs. if you had bought it dont think you would have ever lost any money on it if u maintained it.

Re: Pics of 86 I might buy

makes me feel better about paying $3,700 for mine originally with 61,000 original miles on it.

the 3rd image is showing the reflection off the original paint on the hood.
