The 4x4!
I couldn't find my other thread talking about the Apache i bought last week..im sure i skipped past it a few times and didnt see it, just one of those days haha But here it is in her rusted beat up glory! Shes not pretty but its 100% there original drive train and everything. Not bad for $200. Let me know what ya think of her...I have been debating keeping it around as a truck around the farm but i think its pretty cool how high it sits. But just trying to find out more information on these since i have only dealt with 66 C10 mostly. Thanks

Re: The 4x4!
Id like to get it running enough to use around the farm. Some time i would like to find a decent fleetside bed for it and put it on just for more room for hauling stuff. Its always been a dream of mine to have a restored four wheel drive so maybe some day haha I also had a question of what the differences were between a 61 4wd frame and a 63 4wd frame, if any.

Awesome truck for the price!! I like seeing more 4x4's on here. We are out there, just not as common as the 2wd guys!

Re: The 4x4!
Well i keep feeding the addiction which probably isn't the best thing to do but I will worry about that later haha I almost got it to fire today when i got it home but the gas was awful and it needs a new battery cable. If only they would just start and run and make life easy haha

Re: The 4x4!
Hopefully tomorrow it will fire up. I took it to the car wash this evening since it was still on the trailer to spray out the cab and that was a disaster. I painted the walls black with rat crap and dirt but i was nice enough to clean it up haha. Maybe ill get lucky like you chevy_man5 and i can take it around the section. It has its leaks and whatnot of course but it wouldnt be an old farm truck without it. Ill post more tomorrow when i can tinker with it

Re: The 4x4!
I have been trying all day to get her fired up but the carb leaks all the fuel out that i dump in it to Ill need to get that rebuilt. Drained the fuel lines and blew them all out, and got rid of the old fuel. Previous owner said he had it running within the last month but going by how the gas looked like someone dumped a few bottles of whiskey in the tank I think he lost track of time haha. Im thinkin about a fuel pump as well..does anyone know what its like to change one on a 6?

Re: The 4x4!
Two bolts and about 10 min to do the fuel pump. The carb is a 1BBL rochester, very easy to rebuild. Maybe 40-50 parts total.

Re: The 4x4!
Man I like the K trucks! I was going to swap the stepper out for a fleet bed too but I havent seen a whole lot of the long step trucks around and mine's kinda grown on me. Great find for a great price. I like seeing that there are other people who are into the 4x4's. Enjoy!

Re: The 4x4!
I'm a knuckle dragger and I successfully rebuilt mine, so can you. I was paranoid about losing parts so I put everything into a tray and worked on it there.

Wow!! $200, you scored and saved this from the crusher or from being stripped down and parted out. Congrats.

Re: The 4x4!
Yeah he had said he was going to let it sit on the classifieds for a week then it would go to the crusher. I have one picture of the interior ill put it up real quick but it needs work clearly.

Re: The 4x4!
I'd give you $250 for it right now! Seriously though, I think you got a great deal, and I love the truck. I'd love to have a K series, especially from these years.

Re: The 4x4!
Geez I paid four times that for my 61..You have to look at the VIN to even get an idea what the heck I have...61? 62? GMC? Chevy? The sweet grill guard is NOT for sale!

Re: The 4x4!
I should have known better, I decoded the VIN after I bought the truck, pretty foolish of me I know. The VIN reads as a 61 K10, long stepside, Then I started looking at the frame. I have what looked to me like an extra body mount. That made me think the frame was from a Suburban maybe.. Then on Ebay there was a 62 K10 Chevy frame and cab for sale.. it had the same funny looking mount between the rear cab mount and the leaf springs.. I also read sowewhere that NAPCO supplied the running gear until mid 1963.. The whole truck has me confused.. Front engine mount? hydraulic clutch with the fork on the passenger side? I hope to have the truck hope this week. I'll check for a VIN on the frame.. Top of the rail near the steering box I think.. If no VIN; I was told it's a GMC??
