200-4r installation questions
Gonna be putting one in my truck. Few questions I have. Lock up converter, where is the best place to get one? Do the splines on my stock drive shafts match up to the tranny? Will the drive shaft need to be shortened? Which fly wheel will I need? In short, I pretty much don't know much. Can ya help steer me in the right direction? I have a lift, tranny jack and a few gear head friends at my disposal but want to do this over a weekend so I'm trying to get all my stuff together so it'll run on Monday, being it's my daily driver. Thanks in advance.

The driveshaft will need to be shortened. As far as the flywheel (flexplate), I'm not too sure about the sixes. You have two options, the 153 tooth or 168 tooth. Usually the way the starter mounts to the engine block determines which flexplate you need... bolts straight across, 153, bolts staggered, 168.
Another thing you need to pay close attention to is the TV cable. You'll need to fab a bracket to the intake manifold to install that. It may be tricky (but not impossible) to get the correct geometry on a six... You'll need a crossmember, trans cooler/lines... if you don't already have that. Oh yeah, you'll need another starter too. Your's is mounted to the bellhousing with the standard trans. You'll need an engine block mounted starter.

the 2004r is close to the length of the 350 i don't know about 3 spd. 168 tooth fly wheel. starter for an automatic. splines on output shaft the same.as far as the lock up for tork conveter i bought my trans from gearstar. the lock up was a small switch that has electric from key start and full vacume off carb and thats it.

I agree with the Bowtie Overdrives post. I was able to get everything I needed to do my swap and build my transmission. They have lockup converters and all the wiring to complete the swap. Make sure your TV valve is right or you will destroy your transmision, A pressure gauge is critical to check its adjustment. You will probably need a different yoke on your driveshaft if it is original the slpines on early transmissions are larger.
