Adding back the parking/emergency brake
I've been bouncing and searching around the forum all morning and can't find anything (yet) on reinstalling a parking brake.
My 65 came without one. It has a 350 with the 350 trans and the previous owner took out the stock parking brake. I've seen posts here where the stock one doesn't work with the auto trans put in this truck (guess that's why he took it out). I would really like to add an emergency brake back to this truck. So, my questions are what would work? Where would I get it? and what's involved? Any help or links to existing threads would be appreciated. Thanks, Scott |

Re: Adding back the parking/emergency brake
Scott- I'm not that familiar with the 60-66 trucks, so we may need to move this. For now, I suggest you look at the aftermarket E-brakes such as LoKar has to offer. Take a look in our Vendor Marketplace to see what our Forum Vendors have to offer.

Re: Adding back the parking/emergency brake
I have seen posts on this, and there are details in the factory assembly manual, and the shop manual as to what gets hooked up where. You may just need to add some anchor points for the cables. I will take some pictures of my stock set up and post later, that may help. Did they remove the lever mechanism too? Another option is to add a foot lever, not 100% sure, but think markeb01 did that.

Re: Adding back the parking/emergency brake
I saw one on here where the guy adapted the parking brake lever to operate his automatic trans. It was just a post on the board, probably buried a few pages deep.

Re: Adding back the parking/emergency brake
Just so you can see the whole system, a few posts, 2 pics at a time (I have a 6 zillion MP Nikon...)
First pictures shows lever mechanism, and cable going into floor boards. Second pic shows cable going to the anchor point on the frame (driver side) just to the rear of the shock mount.

Re: Adding back the parking/emergency brake
third pic is the other side of the frame at the anchor point in picture 2
fourth pic is looking forward from the rear showing how the cable from the cab links up to pull on the cable that goes to both rear cable anchor points (it is one bare cable), and also shows the fixed anchor rod with the cable guide on the passenger side.

Re: Adding back the parking/emergency brake
I now see that I am missing my flywheel/bell housing inspection cove plate, and can see that I should check my transmission oil level.

Re: Adding back the parking/emergency brake
picture five is on the passenger side from the rear looking forward, showing the cable coming through the hole in the cross member. Driver side is the same.

Re: Adding back the parking/emergency brake
Thanks for the pictures of your cable set up! I'm thinking about one of those LoKar foot pedals and then I'll have to route new cables somehow. I haven't looked under the truck to see what's left of my system.
