McGauphy drop spindle flaw?!

My spindles just came in today and I have to say I am not impressed. I got the LD 2.5" drop spindles from McGaughy Store online. On the face of the spindle, where the seal sets in, there are ridges on each side of the circular place where the seal seats. Im worried because these ridges will tear up my seal once together. I called Cliff from McGaughys and he said to send in a picture so he could have the tech crew look at it. Im still in the process of getting the picture. The ridges are so small and my camera isn't that great. If anyone has had this problem please share. Once again, I'm sorry I don't have a picture.

I think J Knight had a problem with his spindles a different problem than yours. He had some threads that was crossed where the calipers mount I think

If they are bad have them pay the freight back. Have them send a ups call tag for them.

Re: McGauphy drop spindle flaw?!

I bought two sets of McGuaughys drop spindles, the only issue I had with them was the threads for the caliper bolts. They dont seem to clean enough of the burrs out in the machining process. I learned that on the first set by not checking the threads before installation and stripped out one of the threaded holes. When I got the second set I ran a thread chaser throu all four holes before install and they are just fine now.

Re: McGauphy drop spindle flaw?!

i worked at a machice shop for several years, a thread issue, quick fix is chase the threads out, a problem on the face, send them back, and like grs said, make them pay for the shipping. most places are good about that, just ***** a little bit, once they recieve a notice the faulty product is being processed to ship back, the company sends out another set for ya! just for less down time purposes

best of luck!

I would really like to know if this is a regular problem with these. I have planned on buying either these or Bell. I know I didn't want to use any of the cheaper ones for safety reasons

Re: McGauphy drop spindle flaw?!

Turns out McGaughys Store said they will not be a problem (highly doubt it) and that they do not need to be shipped back. They based their opinion on a picture sent through email. If I want to return them I have to pay for shipping. I know where I won't be buying my parts from in the future.

Re: McGauphy drop spindle flaw?!

My plan is to get the grease seal and check the fitment. If need be, I'll just file the ridges down and clean up the surface a little bit. I should've bit the bullet and went with Bells

Re: McGauphy drop spindle flaw?!

I have mcgaughys big brake kit... I had issues with the threads all boogered up on one, easy fix on the brightside. Other than that they are nice. Didnt have any issue with the seal area.
