steering shaft

The previous owner added a 3 inch body lift to Schleprock. Now after takin out the lift, I cant get the steering shaft to connect to the box because he extended it (too long). Anyone know the easiest way to fix it?

BTW, after removing the lift, I dropped it another 3 inches. Nothing like a 6 inch altitude change to motivate you to get it rolling.

How did he lengthen it? He must have added an extra piece (longer) or worse welded. If it is welded then it needs to be fixed right away. Some pics might help out here.

Hey, paint........if you can't fix it, I've still got the old column out of my truck from when I switched from the 4 speed to the 700R4. Let me know, I can bring it to Pomona.

It looks like he cut it, then welded in a sleeve over the top of it. Would I have to replace the whole column or is it possible to just swap out the piece from firewall to steering box?

Buster, Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. E-mail me with what you want for it. When is Pomona up next?

It is hard to say without seeing it. But I wouldnt trust my life and truck to someone elses welding. I think you could cut behind the welded collar and get a link from Borgeson. www.borgeson.com. They also have steering column pieces to make the shaft the exact length you need and adapters.

Next Pomona is Oct 19. I'll have to go home and look at the steering setup in my truck. It sounds like it's not the shaft in the column thats been altered?

Sorry if I was unclear. Its actually the shaft in the engine compartment from firewall to the steering box.

Let me call a friend of mine with a salvage yard. That should be easy enough to get. I'll get back to you as soon as I track him down.

paintpyro, I don't know how much you like to mess around auto junkyards but if you do? You might find what you looking at Hillside Pick A Part. I was there this passed weekend and saw that some of the trucks like ours had their steering column. The address is: 3760 Pyrite Street, Riverside CA 92509.
Good luck.

Can't figure out how to empty box, only has half dozen in it anyway? Make sure it fits and it's what you want. Maybe we'll stick you for lunch at Pomona.
