73-87 Brakes on a 64 "Brakenstein"
I have done the 73-87 front and rear end conversion on my 64. I dont think I can fit a brake booster with my big block, so I have decided to go with manual brakes. My plan is to get a master cyl. from a 67-72 w disk brakes and I think that it will bolt directly to mt firewall. My question is: does anybody think that my brakes will function correctly with this combo? Also how do I tell the difference between a manual and power master cyl if its not on the car? Any help will be appreciated.

i put a power brake booster on my 63 with a bbc it fit no problem

Big Block. Power brake booster. The picture with the blue one is from a 79 Chevy Truck. My truck is a 65.

A BBC and a power brake booster can be done. It's really close, but if you use a stock-height valve cover, it'll clear.
You really need power brakes to stop one of these trucks in a panic situation. Another option would be a smaller diameter booster, but I think you'll be fine using your donor booster.

You'll want to compare the master cylinder bore diameter between the early and later master cylinders. If the bore is the same as the later master, you should be fine as far as brake function goes.
If you're serious about manual brakes, I suggest you do a lot of squats to build up your quads for maximum pedal pressure.. |

Power brakes with a big block is no problem at all. I wouldn't even consider manual brakes any more. Valve cover clearance is not an issue unless you go with some really tall covers. You could also go with hydroboost. I have the brackets to make either a simple bolt on install, aside from the pushrod.

Would this work? When I pull my VC, I end up with 4.5 inches to the centerline of my master cylinder. This is a 9 in booster which would leave me with 0 clearance when i would pull my valve cover. Decided to go Hydraboost. I have a huge cam and my power brakes may not work anyway. How much is the bracket captain?

The hydroboost mounting plate is $25.00 for bare steel plus $5.00 for shipping. If you want it powder coated that is an extra $6.50.
