Which is the best 12 bolt posi unit?

Is the Eaton the best? Or is something else as good or better? This is going on a frequently abused BB truck with slicks occasionally. Thanks!

I do know Auburn's aren't as easily rebuilt, whereas an Eaton you can rebuild quite easily and there's tons of different clutches and springs for them.

Re: Which is the best 12 bolt posi unit?

I was wondering what the 4x4 guys are doing? Surely a set of 44's in the mud and rocks is every bit as hard or harder on a posi than throwing huge torque through one on asphalt. Or do those guys go with Danas or 14 bolts? I THINK I have heard not as positive things about Auburn but I cannot recall and even searching the web have not had much luck finding real world experience.

The off roaders use allot of Dana 60s and Corporate 14s and they seem to like the ARB air lockers because they know when they flip the switch it is on and don’t have to worry about it. Someone also makes a cable controlled posi that is getting popular as well, but I don’t remember who makes it. 4x4 posi units are all about the driver turning it on or off in the cab and having that control.

I ended up going with a detroit locker in my 12 bolt. Little pricey but its supposed to be able to take some abuse. Alot of BBC guys on this site pointed me towards the locker as well.

I went with the Eaton because it is quieter, I was told the Detroit makes a slite ratchet sound when driving but are tough as nails! good choice!

I definitely agree on the Dana 60's and 14 bolts, my buddies all run them in their 4x4's. One friend swears by the 14 bolt for offroad racing applications, and he's on 42's, partly because of how cheap they are, and also because they're super strong rear ends. I believe he has a Dana 60 in the front on that rig.

Look up wave lock its the best out there currently. The eaton posi is good same as the detroit locker and true track. I have a true track myself. Stay away from auburns. They cant be rebuilt and wear out

I love my Eaton...never know its there til you need both wheels to pull. Every Auburn I have been around is pulling one wheel after a couple years.

Re: Which is the best 12 bolt posi unit?

I have a pro series eaton in my 69, I used spools in my last few street/strip cars. I have not had much luck out of auburns, they tend to not like sticky tires and vht.
