Lowering help 70 SWB

I have a 70 that was cut down to a SWB that looks like it was done right (so far). However, someone did a homemade lowering on it all around. Looks like they did the axle flip conversion for the rear and just heated the front springs to lower the front. This is not acceptable to me at all because the truck does not ride worth a damn at all. The rear does have leaf springs, whenever I go through a dip or hit a good bump, the frame and the axle housing meets with a vengeance. My immediate thought was to throw air shocks on it before I really cause some damage, but wanted to check some of your opinions.

It looks like everyone is going with the 5/7 drop, but I really don't want to go that low. I am going to stick with 15' ralley wheels for a while (maybe forever). The 2/4 drop is more what I'm looking for, this is a daily driver which is mostly highway now.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Here is a current pic of it, I like the stance it has now, but wouldn't mind going a little higher at all just not stock height.

With the flip kit in the rear, you are going to be about where you are now, but would recommend adding a c-notch to the frame for proper clearance. I am thinking the axle pad is the same as the new 73-87 C10's, and you can use that style axle flip bracket.

I would suggest doing a 4.5/6 drop. That would be using 2.5" drop spindles up front with a 2" lowering spring.... and that would give you close to the same look you have, but a littler lower in the front. Then go from there.

Thanks for the info! I do like the stance it has now, but I won't go any lower than it currently is (just my preference). I really want to go with a 2/4 drop, but I guess bottom line, my biggest issue a this time is the way it currently rides. I can't handle it anymore, too rough.

Start by getting those heated springs out of there.You can replace them with spindles, but thats more that the 2" you insist on. You can buy 2" springs, so thats your best bet.

On the rear, notch it and see what you get.

CPP Modular drop spindles are a 2" drop.
But those heated springs have to go,...

Thanks guys! That's one thing I wanted to hear. I've seen a few debates on here going through old posts about heated springs vs aftermarket lowering springs. Guess I just wanted to hear someone agree to my way of thinking

swokcguy- Here's my line of thoughts regarding the front. I prefer to get the most of my front drop with spindles because it has no impact on the ride. I follow that with a stock cut coil or a good quality lowering spring if needed. Heated springs are bad because they will cause the spring to loose tempering and sag or possibly fail. If the original springs are in good condition, I prefer to cut 1 or 2 coils as an economical drop, but thats not an option for you.

1 coil to 1-1/2 coil would be the max for me.
2 coils removed is too much in my opinion.

1/2 coil cut usually equals 1" of suspension drop.
