electric windows

One of these days I'm going to get caught up on my other projects and I can then devote attention to my '65 'Burb. To that end, yesterday I picked up a couple of spare doors. The ones on the 'Burb are showing a little rust through. I want to cherry up these new doors and then mount them. I want to incorporate electric windows when I do this. How have some of you done this? Do I need the stock regulators, or is there a kit out there with everything? Thanks.

I know autoloc has several kits, but I'm not sure of the quality of them. They do make one that lets you keep your window handle and tilt it 15 degrees up or down to roll the window, well, up or down. Again, they look cool, but not sure about quality.
Anybody else's 2 cents?

There are a few on the board who have tackled this project and it looks like a lot of work. It usually requires cutting up the door behind the cover to accomodate everything. I'm sure someone will chime in but I would search the projects forum for "electric windows"

Thanks for the suggestion on search. I did not realize there was that "project" section. Yeah, it does look like a lot of work and I am OK on keeping the vent window. May have to see if I can engineer something up then document it for others.

Electra life make a bolt in kit that requires no modification except for running the wires and switches. They bolt into existing holes, and use original lower window guides, etc. Not cheap, but work very well and smooth.

Have heard several complaints about the AutoLoc units being noisey, but have never installed them.

This is another example of "do you want cheap, or do you want quality"

I personally would rather spend a little more now, then have to spend more again later.

We install alot of accessories in our shop, and are almost refusing to install the cheap crap customer's buy off craigslist and Ebay. There's a reason why it's so cheap or a "good deal"
Do some research about different manufacturers. Careful when pricing kits- some throw out cheap prices, but then you have to buy switches and harness as extras.Others are a complete kit ready to install.

A few to mention are:
Spal (usually less expensive)
Electra-Life
Specialty Power windows
...just a few

Realitsically, you should be able to install a quality kit for around $350

Tincan, I'm with you. I've reached that point in life where I will get a good kit even if it costs a few more bucks to defray the cost and time involved with trying to piece something together. I appreciate the tip and will check it out.

I used electric life and you have to drill two holes at the bottom of the door. I didn't care for that but I have Rod Doors door panels that cover them. if I had to do it again I would go with the Nu Relic stuff.

Speaking of keeping the vent windows...........

I looked into having my door windows made into one piece glass and adding electric locks but when they quoted me $1000.00 per door to do it I figured I could live with that ugly vent window and learn how to use a crank.

I bought mine through Summit .

i recently found a company that sells a 3 piece kit for truck to delete the vent window, the glass id 395.00 plus shipping you can even get the glass tinted. aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrgggggggggggg now i got to find the link and post it btw the kit was for rear glass and both doors.

I am accumulating all my parts to rebuild the doors. My Nu-relics should arrive today. Now, when the heck am I going to get to all this given all of the projects ahead of my 'burb?
