Where should I...
Where should I run my exhaust. Straight out the back or out the side behind the rear tires? Does anyone have any pics of exhaust running out the side? I want a low profile exhaust. I want as little of it showing as possible. Which would sound better? Out back or out side. I have a 350 with Hooker Competition Headers, Flowmaster H-pipe and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers with 2.5" pipe. Getting ready to replace entire exhaust with this set up. Please make suggestions. Thanks

I prefer the side. Mine is side exhaust and sounds great, IMO you will get to enjoy the rumble more with side exit than if it's all blowing out the rear.

The ? is,do you like to hear it? You will hear the ex better while driving ,if its turned out the sides. I have the same system on my longhorn(hooker comps,2 1/2" pipe,H pipe& 40s),& just have turndowns for temporary. I plan to turn the tail pipes out the sides,in front of the tires .....69 longhorn.

Are you putting chrome tips on it? I have mine out the side at an angle behind the tire. Looks cool, but what a pain in the @ss. Pipes are always dirty. Out the back would've been allot easier to keep clean, but it wasnt an option for me.

Let me dig up a picture...it's dark around the exhaust, though, but this is when it went out the back...
I've still got to scan some of my pics back in, I think I've got one that shows the exhaust better (but an older pic, slightly different paint and before it was lowered). I've also got to take some new pics that show the exhaust coming out the side right behind the tires, which I personally prefer. Though after having heard my truck lately driving away (my brother rarely drives it, heh) I realize that I could really use an H-pipe to smooth that sound out... ------------------ Project 1970 - soon to be seen at http://milhouse.treylis.org:81/ [This message has been edited by Project1970 (edited March 30, 2002).]

I think they look better out the back, but if you really want to hear your exhaust, run the pipes out the side. When you drive by another vehicle, it echos back . But, if you have chrome tips, the tips will get scratched up from the tires throwing stuff back on them.

My 2 cents. Out the side,in front of tires is louder but tips get dirty, you tend to get more exhaust smell while idleing at a stop light, exhaust lasts longer because it gets hotter and the tires don't spray it with water/crude as much, cheaper to install. Out the back is cooler in my opinion but if the trucks lowered pretty good you tend to scrape the tipes on the road going up steep driveways ect., also if the trucks coil sprung it's pretty tight to run 2 1/2" pipe

Mine run out in front of the tires. I have the corvette exhaust tips, so it is dual out each side with oval tips. I can't smell the exhaust at idle. It is loud echoing off cars, but I insulated about everything I could in my truck and put cloth over everything metal and can't hear it inside on the highway with the windows up (I swear on that). I prefer out the side
