A couple of new little projects this weekend

I had some parts laying around from old projects and one of them was a 14"x6" open element K&N filter that I kept from my old '70 vette from back in about 98 or so when I sold it. I had a 6" L88 type scoop on that car to fit it so I was hoping for enough clearance to be able to use it on ol' blue under the stock hood.

I had a brand new Trick Flow 14" drop base air cleaner that wouldn't quite clear the stock Quadrajet without some modifications. It needed about 1.5" added height to clear the carb, so I trimmed some off of the stock air cleaner housing and used that base to lift it up a bit. After drilling a few holes with uni-bit stepped bits and some associated grinding I had the PCV hose and filter mounted as well as the charcoal canister vacuum feed fitted. I had to add about 2 feet of hose to extend the PCV to the opposite side of the base for it to work, but that was also "free" from a past project.

It's nice to hear those big secondaries open finally!

Pic 1: part trimmed initially from the stock base. I ended up removing some more and bending a small corner of it after this shot.
2: Just set in place to see if hood closed over the 6" filter. I had the 3" paper one it came with if it didn't fit, but it did.
3: First fit of the charcoal canister vacuum tube. Didn't quite reach into it far enough. Had to grind down the "washer" type thingie (technical term)
4: PCV hose extended, PCV filter fitted, charcoal vacuum tube ground down to poke up higher.
5: Done.

Second project was simple. I had mentioned that I wanted to fit an old quilt as a seat cover so that it reminds me of the old fishing trucks I remember riding in as a kid. Not that the seat is in bad condition, I just wanted something that I can throw in the washer and make the truck smell nice a clean when it needs it. This is my girlfriend's mom, standing with the quilt that she got me at a flea market/swap meet for 5 bucks. She's such a nice lady and has an eye for this shabby chic look I've got going on.

I just cut a few slits for the seat belt buckles to come through and it stays in place really well.

Also got new shoes for winter (new summer tires for next season will be here soon). These are Goodyear Wranglers for $87 each from Walmart. I had these tires on one of my old S10 Blazer's years ago and they did me well. Of course that was a 4x4 so we'll have to see what it does for ol' peg leg here...
