What is the purpose of the track bar? In a 72 truck

I was wondering what purpose of the track bar is on my 1972 truck? Does it act like a sway bar? I want to replace the bushings soon just wondering what It's purpose is. Also I have seen the super trac bar. What is that? Thanks

A track bar/panhard bar keeps the rear end centered on a link suspension.A super trac bar is ment for if you lower your truck or want to make it handle better.

Any precautions to removing it to replace the bushings? Do I need to lift of the ground or can I do it with the weight on the tires? Just dont want to mess anything up on the suspension.

I usually place the rearend on jack stands.
It shouldn't be an issue.
