Top Banana repop doors? Salvage better?

The neighbor kid just backed into my truck and bashed in the door. I think the frame, front fender, etc. are OK, but I need a new door. I know reproduction stuff is a pain in the rear, but I've heard better things about Top Banana. Is their stuff better? What about fit, finish, etc.? Is it better to look for a used door? Insurance body shops (the ones I've called) will not deal with rust issues. The glass is OK, but what else do I need to consider? The insurance adjuster is coming out to take a look, and I need to know what all I may be in for. Also, I have the custom trim (GMC style around the window). I can get the door trim piece from Mar-K, but can the window trim be transferred from a custom door to non-custom? Does anyone produce the GMC style window trim?

Thanks

Sorry to hear about the door and I wish I knew the answer. But I too will be interested in the answer.

I would fix originals. I bought a dynacorn door and sold it again because I didn't like the quality. I would almost guarantee top banana is selling dynacorn doors.

You will have to transfer the window trim. Nobody is reproducing the window trim for the chevy (windshield) or gmc (window & windshield). Use you old door as a template for where to drill the holes. Also...pass on the data if you can. I have a set of GMC window trim to install on my 63 and haven't been able to locate the info on where to drill the holes. Looks pretty straight forward, but if you can toss out some numbers, itd help.

Re: Top Banana repop doors? Salvage better?

I am a fan of factory original sheetmetal, and I would rather repair an original door than fight trying to get a reproduction door to fit. The original stuff is thicker, the body lines are more crisp, and the rolled edges are much more defined on the original stuff. Newer is not always better.

Your bodyman will thank you. If you've ever tried to get the gaps right on a reproduction door, you'll know what I'm talking about.

did I not post that info a while back. may have not have been the fanciest drawing. a friend does have a couple of doors with the holes in them. I do have a spare set of door trim 64-6 and half a set for 60-3
