Wounded, but not DRT
Had some "funny" business going on with the Burb on my way home from work Tuesday for which she gave no warning whatsoever.
Backstory: Replaced Valve Cover Gaskets as the the valvetrain got a needed adjustment, spark plugs replaced before that, Oil Change and Trans. Fluid/Filter Change done before the plugs. After adjusting valvetrain, found out the Burb needs motor mounts, bought them and a full set of Sensa-Trac Monroe shocks while I was at it (hadn't had a chance to put them in yet). All of this was done between last Friday and Monday this week. Tuesday: In rush hour after about 20-25min driving time she starts overheating, looses all get up and go, and oil pressure drops. Get her pulled off at the QuickTrip, after about an hour I check it; Has plenty of coolant, not leaking from anywhere other than the radiator cap, oil is fine... nothing looks to be wrong, so I'm scratching the head... head home from there, after about another 20-25min driving, darn near home she does it again and I just baby it to the house. After a couple hours I check the fluid again and everything appears to be fine...... to say the least I'm bewildered and don't even know where to start looking. Any ideas??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

grab a hold of the fan and see if it moves......watch the pulley, that would mean the water pump is going out if there is excessive play. could also be a faulty thermostat...or lower hose.

Re: Wounded, but not DRT
or the wrong plugs. incorrect heat range can cause the engine to overheat. usually slowly and at cruising rpms

Re: Wounded, but not DRT
Well we checked the water pump and thermostat as was suggested manimal - thank you for the advice
So the next thing tried was a pressure test and the system holds pressure, quite well actually. No leaks, nothing. But what we did find out is that the seal on the radiator cap is wore out and it wasn't tightened as far as it needed to be in order to hold. So I'll replace the cap and see where that gets me.

Re: Wounded, but not DRT
I just re-read your post...change your radiator cap. Also, give your fan a "spin" by hand. It should not spin for more than 3/4-1 revolution. If it does not have any drag on it,then the fan clutch is bad.

Re: Wounded, but not DRT
Replaced the cap and the problems are solved, no leaks, no overheats, nothin.. and that I happen to like, A LOT!
Thank You Manimal for the advice. On a sided note, finally got the driver's sided engine mount replace and that has taken care of some other problems.. so there's a lot of good going on with the Burb as of late.
