Front Spring removal
I have a 66 frame and crossmember. No body no motor etc, pretty bare. With a body and motor etc there is enough weight for me to just set a jack underneath the lower a-arm bar and undo the ubolts with the frame on jack stands however I am worried that without all that weight that may spell disaster. I have a coil spring compressor but cant get it into the spring.
Any one have a safe way to do this? |

Re: Front Spring removal
It was probly really stupid but i had a complete front crossmember off the truck and was anxious to get it apart I just put rachet straps around the arms and stood on top of the crossmember and unbolted the u bolts while standing on it. All it did was give me a suttle pop up not enough to knock me off, i did both side then loosened the straps and it worked out good. It was like ollieing on a skate board haha. Im like 200 pounds by the way.

Re: Front Spring removal
I used the chain method above and it worked well.
Two ubolts hold the lower control arm on. Using a Jack to support the lower control arm bar is the easiest way I have found to remove the springs. Besides that I removed the whole assembly as I am putting on 73-87 arm setup so I would have had to remove them at some point anyway. Springs will be replaced with bags. |
