Re: Why????

I am not a fan of the truck that is lowered more than a couple of inches. But I do appreciate is the skill that it takes to slam one on the ground and then get up and go.

This is American style man. You ask why, and the people doing the building are always gonna say... because we can.
There's great satisfaction in knowing that you have something unique that you built and you maintain, and only you can cruise in.
If you don't like the style, don't do it. That's cool. but don't be a hater, give respect where its due.

Re: Why????

Not into the slammed thing. Like them lowered a couple inches though. I appreciate the work and skill these guys have into the slammed trucks. Not my preference but doesn't mean I don't appreciate them.

Re: Why????

I got the best of both worlds,"Bags and Plates" I can ride it pretty low(not slammed) and can raise it up to a normal truck height! and I haul loads of scrap metal almost every day in it.......nice to have a working truck that I can lower!

It's people doing what they want with their vehicle and building it how they want it to be built.

Re: Why????

I like the low, but I also would prefer a 4x4.

To each his own.

No big deal to me.

Re: Why????

I tried slammin mine on the cheep by lettin all the air out of the tires but it looked goofy and took longer to come back up than an air bag suspension. I think I'll leave Ol John Lee factory height and looks. We're both happy that way and we can drive anywhere we want including out in the woods hunting.

Re: Why????

I've got one up in the air and this next one is just my experiment with lowering. I can always change it back. But it sure would be nice to be able to load something in the bed without lifting it so high..

Best quote ever, haha still laughing about that...

I'm still pretty new here, but if I was told anything by my older generation it was "One day you will be standing around shaking your head at some kids saying, "Back in my day..."." Everything style changes even if by a small detail. If it didn’t you wouldn’t have so many looks out there... No flames(can hear 1Bad62Pro/Street screaming right now), no chop tops, no two toned, no rims bigger or wider then stock, no different exhaust looks... to many things to name that would not be around if someone hadn’t said "You know what would look good..." the trick is to be around so you can tell some kid later your Back in my day story.

Re: Why????

The diversity of this web site was why I have stayed on it. No one putting down the performance guys, nobody putting down the low riders, no one heckling the stock truck crowd.....Just good information and a lot of 60-66 folks who like old trucks and respect others rights......to do what they see fit with their trucks. Other forums heckle those who would remove a v6 from a GMC.......My feeling is "Its your truck as long as you enjoy it--do with it what you will, " JMO Kieth I like them all some just more than others..........ha ha.....!!!

Re: Why????

Opened up a can of worms . But the question was why?
The simple answer is becuse they want to.
It trully is about choice right?
I like to say " You want me to build it the way you like it? Pay me,
If not I'll build it my way."
Don't take it the wrong way but build your truck the way you want, and let others build it the way they want.... we dont live in a black and white world, enyoy the colors.

WOW, a vehicle passing me shooting sparks like that would freak me out!!

How often do they have to replace the frames, or do they put skid plates on there?

He just lowered it for the pic...I'm sure he raised it back up right after that. You can see he's in the mirror keeping an eye on the baggage behind.

Re: Why????

Y'all argue/discuss like the Honda Ruckus group I left a while ago. We all like what we like and what brings us here is the basic platform Chevy/GMC trucks. Agree to disagree. A lot of good info comes from this forum. Good luck to all of the trailer queens, daily drivers, under construction, and Mudders out there.

Re: Why????

I also like all the various trucks that Dino has built. He has done everything but a 4x4, I think.

But I like these trucks in all sorts of ways.

I like this:

Re: Why????

Yup. I like 'em just like they were built, even right down to the skinny little bias tires. You know.. hot dogs, apple pie, Chevrolet, and all that stuff.
That said, I absolutely love what some of the better builders are currently doing with the slam bag thing, and we all know who they are.
It's a shame that a lot of good trucks are being hacked up for the unsafe low budget abominations that just try to mimic that look.
One thing that we in the 60-66 crowd have going for us is that these trucks are not rare. The sixties was a hell of a decade, and Chevrolet broke production number records several years in a row. Contrary to what a few staunch purists think, there is nothing Holy or sacred about a production line work truck. They did however play an integral part in building the great country we live in.
So, I've said this before ... save the best survivors so we have an accurate record of what America was doing when we were at the top of our game, and do what you want with the rest ...just do it safely.

Re: Why????

Why??

Because I love slammed trucks.
I would walk past a row of stock trucks to look at a slammed truck.

Same as patina. I'll walk past 20 cars/trucks to look at a *****in patina'd car.

And I'm no young kid, at 43 with a 19yr old and a 16yr old, and married 23yrs, Ive had plenty of shiney showcars/trucks.
Ive owned a old car since I was 20. So 23yrs in the game has let me see alot of fads.
Im over it. I have 100% more fun in a slammed car or truck with patina and character.
And Im not referring to Ratrods....cobbled together turd boxes. But well built but less polish.
Just my .02

I'm not sure if Dino has had a 4x4 in his in collection, but I do remember him building a "Prerunner". It was pretty bada$$... someone has to have a pic of it.
