Fuel sender wiring

Hi fellas and one have a wiring diagram to hand
trucks all ready for its mot but i just found out the fuel gauge dose not work

it has the original plug on the rear of the gauge with 2 wires in it but i found a wire on the floor attached to fresh air?

i traced it to the fuel tank so i have a earth of the tank to the body then this long wire just laying by the pedals
were it go chaps ??

If it can be traced back to the tank-side of fuel gauge AND is brown/tan, it sounds like it is original tank-wire, severed along its original path to the terminal on top of your tank.

Quick test: Switch ignition to ON; check that NO voltage exists on end of that wire going to 'fresh air'; ensure other side of gauge has voltage going to it from fusebox; the gauge should read FULL; watch FUEL GAUGE as you ground that 'strange' wire; gauge should go to EMPTY. If you see these actions, it means the gauge is good!

If it complies with above tests, temporarily splice one end of a longer wire to the strange wire and other end to terminal on your tank. If SENDER/FLOAT in tank is good, gauge should read correctly--somewhere between E and F--to show you how much gas is in the tank!

If so, splice the wire onto it permanently, bury carefully under carpet/mat, & re-attach to tank terminal. This wire IS THE VARIABLE (WITH FUEL LEVEL) GROUND FOR THE GAUGE. Other terminal on gauge goes to "FUEL" terminal(Yes, a dedicated, single male spade terminal for Fuel Gauge) on FUSEBOX and supplies voltage to the gauge.

Hello, Col, from 'across the pond'. Hope you have your gauge issue solved. Let us know if you need further info--just happened, again, upon this topic and was curious. Hi Sam cheers for The reply been so busy with work (own a body shop)
I've not had chance to take a look it is mot'd now so atleast I can use it

just need ro carry a fuel can

It's to check its safe to drive onuk roads then I
Can apply for a registration and then drive it legally
On uk roads
