Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
I'm working on the wiring harness for my 5.3 donor engine and it's now time to connect the pink wires to the fuse block. I've been following the directions on LT1Swap.com so I have a total of 16 wires to connect to 3 terminals on the fuse block.
That means that I'll have to group the wires in three sets, two of 5 wires and one with 6. So here's the question does it really matter which wires are grouped together? Does it matter if 5 of the injector wires are in one group with 3 in another or if both coil pack wires are in the same group. Before I go to the trouble of tracing out each of the wires so that certain ones are grouped together, I thought I'd get your onion. Thanks |

Re: Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
I don't have a definite answer, but I've heard people only forming the pink wires into groups of two. The guy I had rewire my harness also put them into a group of two and told me to put a 15amp fuse into each group. I'd also like to learn more.

You could use one of these fuse panels and then use two-gang wire terminals on each connector lug.

Re: Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
I am sure that would be fine..
The factory harness on mine was done like this.. I went ahead and did it the same way.. I am sure this is overkill.. The only advantage I can see is that it might be easier to trouble shoot.. 11 15A Coil & Inj. 1,3,5,7 12 15A Coil & Inj. 2,4,6,8 13 15A O2 Sensors 14 15A TAC 15 10A Transmission 16 10A PCM 17 15A PCM & MAF 18 19 20 I am using a 20 fuse block.. once again not necessary but allowed me to move a lot of circuits off the glass fuses to this..

Re: Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
In theory, you could wire all of them together and put one fuse on them. Would it be a good idea? No. You should spend the time and group the left injectors together, right injectors together, left coils, right coils, ect. Personally, I'd use more than 3 fuses. The factory seperates them by left and right, so if you have a problem, and a fuse bliows on one side, the engine will still at least run good enough to get you off the road, versus just going completely dead if it's all on 1 fuse.

I did this^^^^
L/R inj, L/R coils, 02/MAF, PCM, Ign. I used 8 total fuses with 2 of the fuse blocks on LT1Swap

Re: Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
I used a Current Performance SA-1000 Engine Management Fuse Block.
http://www.currentperformance.com/Ac...ies/SA-1k.html It adds an extra fuse block but it helped seperate the wires so there all not on 1 circuit. It has ignition circuits and battery constant circuits along with relays for the fuel pump, A.C. fans and others. Good luck with the conversions.

I did injectors and coils on one, sensors on another one.

Re: Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
It's better to run the left coils and injectors together and the right coil and injectors together then the 02,maf,ecm and trans together that's how I do it when I rewire every harness I rework that way if you have a wire short out for an injector on the left side then you know where to look and I always power up the fuse block with a relay

Re: Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
Do you have labels that I just can't see for what all those pink wires go to?
If not, I'd trace them all back to their connectors and label them. Then fuse them like the factory did, or like Painless does. You can find Painless's instructions file at summitracing.com, scroll most of the way down the .pdf & copy their layout. The reason not to blindly lump them together is that you will have a hard time trouble shooting it later on if you do. Labeled wires through appropriately ganged & sized fuses, plenty of harness tape & some split-loom over that. Trouble-free. Last edited by yossarian19; 12-24-2012 at 12:11 AM. |

yikes thats clean, makes me feel exposed with my fuses open underhood. I'd also like to know the source for that product!

Re: Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
Looks to me like it's 3 fuse blocks, 4 fuses each, w/ two relays & the OBD2 connector, all enclosed in a Home Depot outdoors electrical box. Might be Lowes.
The fuse blocks, OBD2 connector, relays & relay plugs are all available at http://www.rjminjectiontech.com/ I'm totally going to steal that outdoors electrical box idea... very nice install! |

Re: Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
nice setup...clean. Only thing I see is having the OBDII port in a box might not be convenient...unless you're running an extension to somewhere in the cab.
I only say this as my OBDII port gets used constantly. If not scanning/logging with HPTuners...I have my Aeroforce Interceptor so I can monitor more then my gauges show.

Re: Does any pink go with any pink- a wiring question
Hah! Funny you mention BUD industries... i posted before I looked around at Home Depot.com and never found the enclosure you used. I then tried Amazon and later visited BUD industries' web site. Great minds must think alike
Thanks for the lead. I really wasn't sure what I was going to do with my fuse panel. I have a couple ammunition boxes (water tight steel type) laying around the garage, thought I might use one of them + a grommet + a hole saw. I think your idea looks cleaner, is easier to work with & is less work, too. |
