Re: what is proper fuel sender ohms?

I am about to order one myself, and from what I understand it has to be 0-30 ohms to jive with the guage in the dash. The 67 and newer went to 90 ohms and will make your guage out of whack. If I am not right on this, someone please correct me so I get the right one also.

It is 0-30 ohms I ordered 2 aluminum tanks and 2 4 row radiators from pro performance Talk to Travis there he is very helpful and I customized my tanks for 1/2" outlet instead of 3/8" very helpful people

Re: what is proper fuel sender ohms?

I have heard that some of the 66's had 0-90. I have a 66 that was 0-30.

Easy way to tell, wait til your tank is like 1/2 full (or near empty or 0) Put a volt-ohm meter (Set on ohms) positive on the gas tank sending unit lug that goes to gauge (grey wire) and the negative side to the ground screw or something metal there with a ground

1/2 tank 15 ohms = 0-30, 45ohms = 0-90

Empty will be near 0 ohm for both, but full on one will be 90 and the other 30.

Takes 15 seconds to see.

Re: what is proper fuel sender ohms?

Of course, if you don't have a tank and sending unit, and you're buying new...not so quick and easy If you wanted to be 100% sure, get a 15 ohm resistor from radio shack, ground one side, hook other side up to sending unit wire for gauge. If it's near 1/2 tank (gm is a bit of a liar so it will be off some) it's a 30ohm. if it's a lot closer to empty, it's a 90ohm setup. You could use a 30ohm resistor too, see if it's near 1/3rd tank or full.
