Need Help With Tires

I have a 1987 chevy LWB with 255/55/18 on front and currently have 265/60/18 on back. I would like to have a much wider tire in back without going taller. What tire do you guys recommend? Thanks

Use this site... you can punch in different tire ratios and sizes and see how they compare to what you have on there currently

Re: Need Help With Tires

Thanks, Not sure of exact number of inches but I just did a axle flip on the back with 3" drop spindles on front and cut one coil off. I will try and get a stock pic of it up so you can c how much it dropped.

Re: Need Help With Tires

looks real good! i did a 3" drop spindle with the 1 coil cut on mine also, just cant decide what to do on the rear,,, the axle flip i thought was 6" drop, but it doesn't look as drastic as i thought! did you have to notch the frame?

Re: Need Help With Tires

I have not but need to and will be doing that soon. The axle is only about 2 to 2 1/2 inches from bottom of the frame. It will ride just fine but a big bump or load will cause it to bottom out on the axle.

Re: Need Help With Tires

The width you can go also depends on what rim width you have, if you have for example 15x10, I've heard of people putting a 295 on the back.

Re: Need Help With Tires

They are 18x8 front and 18x9 on back. I was looking for someone that new tires really well to say Ok your running a 265/60/18 and you want to go wider but not to much taller you can run ? The problem I have using the tire calculator is that I find a size I like but that size will not be available.

Re: Need Help With Tires

Yeah I understand what you mean, in my honest opinion the widest you can probably squeeze on your truck is about a 285 with the rim you have on the rear right now.
