Local guy or a business?
Small claims court could be an option. Usually a summons/notification of pending suit gets people's attention. You could get a few hundred out of that shortblock to someone wanting to build a stroker motor. |

Re: And so it begins......
I would agree, unless it sat for an extended period outside before you bought it there's no way he heard it run.
Have you tried turning it over with a wrench? As crusty as those bores look I wouldn't be surprised if it was stuck. Small claims may be a painful venture but at least you'll make him face the music and recoup your $. |

Re: And so it begins......
That sucks! If it makes you feel better, I think everyone involved in this hobby has a story like that. 10 years ago I bought a 454 out out of a tow truck that I heard run with my own ears. He pulled it and 2 days later I came back to grab it. Looked the same, and I had no reason to believe he had switched it or anything shifty had gone on. Smash cut to 4 months later I'm throwing it in my truck and we fill the radiator full of water and...... it comes running out of the oil pan. Yea. Nice. Huge crack in the block. Never could track the guy down again.

Re: And so it begins......
Ok so a lot has been happening since the last update. I wound update rebuilding the old block .030 over. Finally got it back from the engine shop. Got the truck in the shop this weekend and got the front end off. The old running gear out and put the new 370 ci and 4L80e in place. Gotta upload some pics for you guy.
To anybody running a 4l80e: my trans case is actually touching the lip on the bottom of the forewall slightly. How did you get around this? Bend the lip? What is the minimum clearance I should be comfortable with. Also: i only have approximately 3/8 clearance on top of the teams for basically it's whole length. Is that enough? Re: And so it begins......
Mine is pretty close as well. I seem to recall doing some bending or trimming on that area...but not sure how much. I didn't grind on the trans case...but there are places it could be trimmed down a bit. I've fought with vibration issues but believe my setup to finally be fixed through re-adjusting pinion angles and getting a new d-shaft built. Seems I somehow warped/bent the other one (also new) to be .030 out in the center and .025 out on one end?
I think part of the solution is to get the tall trans hump...and 3/8" is all I have in areas...

Re: And so it begins......
Hopefully my 2001 LQ4 will look better when I pull it apart. I plan on swapping heads and intake anyway so it's just the short block I have to worry about.

Re: And so it begins......
No I'm really dreading it. I pretty much refuse to cut my frame and the engine is WAY far back. Back of driver head is maybe 2" from firewall. Excited about the way it is tucked up in there if I can get the headers to fit and the whole thing dropped down to alleviate the trans issue. Very pissed about the crappy POL tubular x member. Will NOT work with a 4L80e. Poor design imho. Wish I had bought CPP. Live and learn I suppose.

Re: And so it begins......
Mine looks cleaner and I saw the vehicle it came out of. I know, you've heard that before. I'm just going to use the short block and put L92 heads, LS3 intake, and a cam in it this year. Was planning on stroking it next year but I'll force myself to do it this year if I have too.

Re: And so it begins......
Couple of questions. I went to change my power steering lines over on the pump tonight and I've run into an issue. I swapped the big adapter in the back of the pump with no problem, but the way the original 72 hardline is bent actually hits a boss on the side of the block and won't go in to the new pump. Which lines are you guys running?
I've also seen where some guys are using the new truck LS radiator hose. I'm using the factory 72 radiator and it seems that the hose is too small to fit. Are y'all using an adapter or am I missing something? Posted via Mobile Device |
