steam port line???

i am guessing the line pointed to with the red arrows is steam vent line? maybe. comes off the drivers side head the goes through the throttle body and out to a really long hose.

from the factory im guessing this connected back to the radiator.

what have you hooked this to? do you plug it?

and just for reference my radiator will be higher than block.

Yes that is the steam line. yes you can just return it to your radiator or radiator hose or water pump. You can bypass the throttle body and just go straight from the head to the radiator (if desired). ok, if once you purged the air out, is it needed still?

could you block it off as long as the system was sealed? or is this big no no?

that's a big no...no.... cause it's the water that run's through your head's so you do need it......or els your motor is going to over heat....

Ive seen them done both ways, I prefer the steam line t be emptied into the highest point personally.

From what I gather, the steam line are important for cold weather starts....help warm up the throttle body. I plan on using the steam line kit from Summit.

the steam line is definitely for the TB warm up in colder areas but it also provides an escape for air in your cooling system. if you have a "bubble" in your heads or elsewhere, you run a real risk of overheating. I know some guys swear they never hook them up, but me, I want it hooked up as close to factory as I can. GM didnt put it there just to be pretty ya know?

yeah its not to be pretty, then LM7 is about as ugly as a mud fence.

when I replaced my radiator, I poured coolant/water down the upper hose ( my mechanic friend said it was best) it is said to help alleviate the air pockets.

it has worked for me for several years and a several thousand miles on my swap but they make a "TEE" fitting the right size to splice into your heater hose. That is what I did and no problems that I know of. This is not the highest spot if anything it is the lowest but it works.

will install it in the upper hose when it crosses over to enter back into the radiator.

hmmm hose adaptors, may also be needed before this is over
