Converter question...
What does it mean when you guys talk about a converter "flashing"?
I thought I knew a lot of stuff when it comes to high performance cars/trucks but the more I read on these boards the more I realize I don't know anything. Can you help a guy out? |

Re: Converter question...
So, on the transbrake, my converter goes to 5,000 rpm.
If I leave off idle or 2,500 with the foot brake or 3,500 with the two-step, the converter flashes to 4,500. It never reaches the 5,000 it does on the t-brake. Advertised stall speed and actual flash speed are rarely the same. Ideally, the stall speed and flash speed should be the same but rarely are. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Converter question...
The flash point is where the tranny engages an starts pulling. All this happen in just a fraction of a second.

Re: Converter question...
My new converter ( freakshow out of Abilene Tx ) is listed at 4000 rpm stall . If i take the 2 step off and dead head it , it is around 3900 rpm . If i 2 step it at 2200 it flashes to 4100 or 4200 when i release the transbrake ( happens quick and im trying to drive ) . If footbraking it will load up against the brakes up to about 2600 before it over comes the clamping force of the brakes and when i swap legs it flashes to 3700 or 3800 .
This converter will drive the truck around town just fine and is a touch "loose" on the bottom , but once it is above 2300 rpm it is seamless . The stall is not like a light switch . The rated stall is the point at which the converter starts becoming efficient . The flash stall , as i understand it , is when power is applied quickly were the converter "catches" the power . The "flash stall" will vary with your set up , weight vs power etc.
