Advice wanted

Located a 72 that spent its entire life in the SW. Unrestored daily driver that still wears the original rubber floors. (I'm aware they breed rust) Owner has been very open with me and passed on many photos. Looking for a member that has extensive knowledge repairing the rocker box area. Have many pics of rockers and floor. I prefer to email pics as the Blazer is not yet mine.

Had a 72 in the mid 90's that was a solid original so this repair is uncharted territory. Looked at many threads prior to this post. The unknown under rockers worries me...

Please pm your email. Any help is much appreciated.

Re: Advice wanted

I'm no expert but the rear of the rocker box area is an special area of concern. I.e. "B" pillar area. There is a mix of body/rocker parts that very commonly rust out. My California Blazer had/has rust in that "B" pillar area. It seams that dirt/water/sand/particles can easily rest there and rust out.

The good news is that it is all fixable. Some specialty parts are sold by some of our member/vendors.

If you can't see it and verify there is no rust...then you should probably assume there is. Other areas of rust to watch out for is the windshield header, under the top edge. And, look at the foot/cowl area.

If it is an otherwise good/nice blazer, it may be worth the risk because it'll be hard to find a blazer without said rust issues....

Re: Advice wanted

The pics Aaron sent me are a highly optioned, Ochre K/5 with Single wall top, 14 bolt conversion, aftermarket a/c, small block, etc.

The body shows rust through in the B pillar, rockers, rear of front fenders, doors...

Lots of body work will be needed. Essentially, all the A and B pillars will need rust repair...and as we know, this will include the rocker boxes, inner and outer rockers, and part of the floor.

Lots of work!

Could be a great K/5 though...

Remember, rust is an iceberg, you only see the tip.
