hitch question?

so i want to get a hitch for my truck, been looking all over town, which if i order one online, i would have already had it hooked up, but kind of a odd question i think, but here it goes, is there a difference between the 84 short bed frame and the long bed frame? it is a K10. on one of the hitches i found it said it was for a long bed frame and didnt say anything about the short bed, i thought the only difference would be the length not width

Re: hitch question?

The only thing I ran into when looking for a hitch was the interference with the spare tire. Shouldn't be any difference other than that. I ended up with a Draw-Tite from www.ecustomhitch.com. Great service and the price wasn't too bad either.

Re: hitch question?

I like this site for scoping things out: http://www.etrailer.com/hitch-1984_G...ies+Pickup.htm

Looks like the part numbers for short or long bed are the same.

Re: hitch question?

I took a nice hitch off a long bed frame and it didn't fit on my short bed frame. The spring hangers interfered with the hitch. Newer hitches might be universal.

Re: hitch question?

I just installed a Curt Class IV receiver on my 74 swb K10 that I purchased from The Hitch Store.

When ordering it did not specify short or long wheel, just frame with of 34 in. Installation was pretty straight forward but had to drill 6, 1/2 in holes in the frame (ugh).

I haven't had the chance to install my tire carrier but it looks like it should re-install without an issue.
