Introducing John Lee Jr.

Thanks all. Wife just called, last of the Bloodmoney checks for Ol John Lee just arrived. Guess I'll cash them all tomorrow so I can make the trip down to SC and finish paying for John Lee Jr. Meantime, I gotta stand up my paid membership here for parting out Ol John Lee. Gonna be a shame to loose him but maybe he'll be instrumental in the repair and maintenance of quite a few trucks, John Lee Jr. included.

Gettin close...title is cleaned up and ready for transfer and signatures. Got a potential buyer for parts or all of Ol John Lee tonight...if so, I have no wheels and tires to swap onto John Lee Jr to make the drive home but .... Workin now on a buddy deal to trailer John Lee Jr from SC to NC if the entire tire swap deal dosn't pan out due to a sale. Gettin close. Gettin jumpy and fidgety. Palms sweatin, heart thumpin and smokin cigars at a furious rate.

Alright, Old Dudes with I6 performance experience....

John Lee Jr has a rebuilt Chevy 230" I6 factory rated at 140 HP at just over 3000 rpm and 220 ft/lbs torque in the 2200 RPM range.

Dad had an old flathead dodge 217 I6 that ran split manifold dual exhaust and two carter 1bbls on a fenton intake........he said only the Buick straight 8s and the chevy V8s could keep up with him in the PA mountains in th 60s

These parts are available for the Chevy I6s in the form of fenton cast iron split manifold exhaust and dual intake for 2 Rochesters or even a 2 or 4 barrel intake...is it really that good an improvment in useable torque or is Dad just havin fond memories of Ol Bessie?

No John Lee Jr was restored and rebuilt back in 1994 and saw 200 miles outside the garage since then. Recently he had his tank and lines flushed and fuel pump replaced. Also, new brake hoses and one wheel cylinder was replaced to get him back on the road. He runs strong but his tires are flat on the bottom and feels like a fred flintstone mobile at 15 mph. That plus a 200 mile self powered drive home on a 200 mile truck that had an 18 year sit didn't make sense. A blown seal or stuck thermostat ment sittin on the side in country I'm not familiar with in a vehicle that no one under 40 years old knows how to evaluate let alone fix. We'll trailer it, shoe it and break that overhauled I6 in gently.

A half a day and John Lee Jr will be here. If he's a diamond then to coin a Gas Monkey Phrase, Ol John Lee is a Diamond in a Goats Butt. But he was a good truck. I think John Lee Jr will be too. Ol John Lee was the 20000+ thousandth truck off the Baltimore Line in 1964 and John Lee Jr was the 7000+ truck off the same Baltimore line in 1965. They prolly passed each other on the NC and SC roads in the past. While Ol John Lee was solid and reasonably rust free, John Lee Jr seems to have 90% less rust in his body. We've already prepped the battlefield and will switch over the tires and visors and rear view. Prolly need to transfer the suspension in the near future but overall, NC title, some good insurance and break in that under 200 mile rebuilt I6 slow and easy after its 18 year sit. I'm ready.

I just saw this one. John Lee Jr reminds me of my truck when I first redone the paint in '84 while in high school. Same color except my roof was not white. Looks like it could be the same exact options (none) as mine was, just plain and simple. I hope to get mine back to original colors someday soon.
