new car smell

I haven't seen this question asked on here yet.Has anyone found a brand of air freshener to make my 77 driver smell,well,driveable? The mice have been living in it for too many years and it reeks in there.I'm thinking there has to be a smell that blends with the mouse smell to make a pretty smell.Any ideas?

Or the padding under it. I'm afraid of all the stuff I found under/rubbed into that padding

You need to strip that cab to bare metal and scrub it all down good, If they've gotten into the seat scrap it too..... I'ma bout to pitch my cookies just think'n about it.....

Have you cleaned out the heater vents and heater box?A mouse can get just about anywhere and make a nest.

If your truck has been thoroughly "demiced", I'd suggest using fabric softner sheets and stuff them in every a/c and heater vent and then run the air as often and as long as possible. Replace the carpeting or at least shampoo the devil out of it. Use the fabric softner sheets under the seat as well. I learned this tip from a friend who worked in the fire restoration business.

All good ideas. The carpet should go. You will spend a bunch of time and money trying to clean it and you'll still have old nasty carpet. You have to clean/replace any material in the truck if it is that bad. You need to clean the vents and heater box as well. Lysol in the cowl vent works wonders. You'll probably use a whole can or maybe two. Air fresheners only mask the problem so get rid of the root. When my friend and I flip trucks the interior comes out, the carpet either gets replaced or pressure washed with laundry detergent and then dye'd. After that we clean the bare floor usually scrubbing it clean with soap and water and they dry it out. After the carpet has sun dried it gets dye'd and put back in. People always comment on the interiors of our trucks.

If you don't want to throw everything away then you need to find an enzyme product. They sell it at pet stores. It is marketed towards dog and cat urine. Get some of that and spray it on at what ever dilution ratio. Let it set for 1/2 -1 hour as long as it is still wet. Now here might be the tricky part. You now need a portable carpet cleaning maching if possible.

I own my own floor care business and we get all kinds of smells out. I have never been up against a mouse though. It should't be any different than animal urine or one taking a nasty crap all over the floor. If nothing else then just take the carpet and seat out and power wash them. Just make sure if you do this to put plenty of product on it and let dwell for a good while. I would also take the heat duct system apart and make sure it is cleaned out.

my transmission leaks oil out of the top at the shifter cane and i donw wash my hands after working on my truck so the gear oil and greases smells cover up other smells. thats also a great way to get the sticky gunk off the wheel

Mice are disgusting little animals. Mouse urine is difficult to get rid of. They pee on everything and track it everywhere they walk.

Dryer sheets and Febreze are perfume. Your rig will smell like mouse and perfume.

Cloth, vinyl, and carpet will stink forever. Swap to some undamaged parts. If you think the seat and headliner may be salvageable let it sit in direct sunlight for a couple days after liberally spraying top and bottom with pet urine odor killer.

I'd strip the cab to the metal and scrub with soap and water then liberally spray on a pet urine odor killer. After it's sat for a day or so scrub it again and re-apply the odor killer. Any plastics they haven't urinated on, like the headliner trim & pillar trim, scrub in the same manner.

If they're in the HVAC ducts and heater/AC boxes you'll be pulling them. Mouse urine odor will linger in the plastic even after repeated cleanings. I'd pull a set from a truck that hasn't had an infestation and replace yours.

I have a friend who owned a trucking company, had a refer unit go bad on a 48ft’r hauling frozen chicken, talk about stink.

She had her maintenance crew throw 15lbs of fresh coffee all over the floor & shut the doors, a week later they opened it up and the stench was gone.

They P-washed out the coffee and everything was good to go

Theres something about the smell of the dryer sheets the mice don't like also. A guy I worked with that had a camper told me about that. Anytime I park something for the winter etc. I bomb it with dryer sheets and it keeps the mice away.

I'd take a saturday and pull the seat, carpet, dash pad and door panels and go to town with some soap and water, even bleach if its that bad.

Coffee scorched in a pan will remove the smell of Decomposition from a house. Learned that the hard way. YMMV Jay

After you get it clean:
Irish Spring soap - mice seem to hate the smell. Put it in the truck if you have to store it. Smell will go away when you pull it out.
To make a car smell 'new', put a small flat pan with kerosene, sometimes turpentine, and maybe a little ATF in it, on the floor. Let that evaporate for a couple days. Mimics the smell of the plastics outgassing. Make your own witches brew to smell the way you wantit to. marvel mystery oil and Kroil are generally too light and sharp. WD40 is not recommended as the silicone will make any paint or dying almost impossible.
Remove the pan before driving. No one likes kerosene on the floor.

we use bounce/fleecy sheets all over the trailer when we close it up
and some all summer,if does seem to leave a "nice" smell
seems everybody does this when closeing
I throw some in the truck for the winter...
Rip out the carpet ,I used spray nine on rust marks and stains,and pressure wash it
then finish with liquid gain
And a coat of paint on the floor?

if the smell is blowing threw the vents,remove, wash, let dry, wiff or replace

pee caused rust.....
