Bed bolt dismensions and quantities?

Just spend a half hour searching and looking through the FAQs with no luck. Do we have a thread that details the quantities and sizes needed for bed bolts (all bolts: strips, hold downs, wheelhouses)? Wondering if money can be saved by purchasing locally from some place like TSC instead of ordering online.

Re: Bed bolt dismensions and quantities?

The original bed strips used a spline type carriage bolt. You most likely are using new strips that will have square holes punched in them.

Re: Bed bolt dismensions and quantities?

you pay dearly for those bolt kits from the vendors.
i believe the shortbed kits have 68 bolt sets
i bought boxes of 100 ss bolts, nuts and washers from boltdepot.com/ for less than what vendors get for mild steel kits.
i also picked up ss bolts for fenders, steps, sills and misc extras at the same time to save on shipping.
the funky washer for the sill bolts is not available except in the kits.
i used standard bolts and recessed the head under the bedwood.

Re: Bed bolt dismensions and quantities?

Thanks, Ogre, that's what I'm wondering about. TSC sells bolts/washers/nuts by the pound, and they go on sale for 30% off, too. Not sure if they have stainless, though.

Mine's a long fleet, so it will need more.

It would be nice to have a list of sizes and quantities for those that want to put their own hardware together. I can just count and measure as I take the bed apart if someone doesn't post first.

Re: Bed bolt dismensions and quantities?

Unfortunately the P.O. removed all the bed strips, bolts amd related hardware on my fleetside shortbed. I can get hardware at wholesale prices thru my work. If anyone would have a hardware list, it would be really helpful so i know what to get.

Re: Bed bolt dismensions and quantities?

While poking around my bed today, I found a perfect 12pt socket that will remove the factory square nuts that hold the bed strips in. Of course, I forgot to note the size. I'll post it tomorrow.

It's driving me insane that I misspelled "dimensions" in the title of this thread.

Re: Bed bolt dismensions and quantities?

Update: 13mm 12pt works perfectly on the square nuts that hold the factory bed strips in.

Re: Bed bolt dismensions and quantities?

Are the bed bolts 1/4", 3/8" or 1/2". I just might bring several different lengths home to see what would work if I knew what diameter they were supposed to be.

Thanks,
Kevin C

Re: Bed bolt dismensions and quantities?

I bit the bullet today and did an order from Mar-K. I can post sizes when I get it.
