Fuel pump preferences?

I'm currently running an electric fuel pump because that's the way the truck was set up when I bought it. I'm curious as to y'alls thoughts on electric vs. mechanical.

They are just better for the average vehicle. Even a cheap parts store replacement will keep up with a decent small block easy enough. Plus you don't have the other associated problems as with a electric one. Plus cheap, and electric pump don't work to well together.

Summit even has 2 different mechanical pumps that can run fuel injection 1 for TBI set-ups, and 1 for high pressure set-ups.. Yes it is like $250, but my guess is that it would be quite reliable, and clean looking.

Mechanical pumps are much cheaper and you can get a replacement if needed 7 days a week at any parts store in America.

They almost always last longer too.

I have run electric Carter fuel pumps for over twenty years with no issues. Never had one go bad either come to think of it. Primes the carb like fuel injection and when it's switched off gives a thief a problem. Will never let gas into my oil system and is easy to trouble shoot.

I've run electric ,(anti theft reasons)once it stopped leaking,carb flooding it was good
now i'd run Mechanical cheaper and reliable

i think it really depends on what you are doing. for a stock dd to some mods mechanical all the way. high hp big cab then electric. but and this is just me. i think electric is great as was said prims the carb more even flow ect. if your truck is not a dd then go electric. wont get used enough to burn it out

I do believe the high pressure mechanicals are for race cars where reliability is king. For a street driven EFI truck, electric fuel pump undoubtedly. It primes the engine as it should. I don't miss the days of cranking my truck for 3 mins or more, it starts almost instantly with the TPI conversion.

Just don't buy a cheap Airtex pump like I did. Whines like a bastard.

x2, efi conversion, first fuel pump (no names), garbage, now running an Aeromotive stand alone, awesome!
either way, there both good & reliable for the street, just buy the best you can afford,

The durability is a big thing to me. Also it's easy to change out and if your in a bind a cheap store baught one will get you home
