Putting my 57' back together in the rainy PNW!!!

I am getting closer to firing the truck up..........

Just recieved my driveline back from the driveline shop tonight. The driveshaft looks outstanding and fits like a glove!!!! Couldn't have been more happy about the results. I still need to complete my gas tank filler neck install, install carb & linkage, add fluids, wire up the electric fan relay and crimp a few wires. The weather is improving around here and I am getting car show fever!

Yes, Speedway Motors delivered my replacement fan quickly. All of the numbers matched up to the ones you gave me. Thank you again!!!!! I also wanted to note that Speedway has excellent A++++ customer service! They were extremely helpful getting this fan business straightened out and quickly shipped out a new one. My correct 16" fan is now mounted and awaiting to be wired up.

The weather just keeps getting better up here, I'm starting to really feel the pressure on this deadline, so the good weather has had me at it till nearly 10pm every night. My Fiancé has been working late hours too, so that helps keep me in the shop.

I am looking pretty good at this point. If I run into major mechanical issues once the truck is running..........all bets are off. I have friends encouraging me to finish up early and start attending cruise nights & car shows. I am trying hard to have it going soon. Most of all, I want to drive away with my new bride from the wedding venue.

Still plugging away at my project. It seems I have entered the little "details" stage. Buying nuts, bolts, hoses, adapters, fittings, etc to tie up loose ends. I am trying real hard to make my July 20th wedding deadline. Here is an update.............

Go to the wrecking yard and source bolts for a buck, make the deadline and replace them later in needed.

I get almost all my stainless hardware from Pomona swap meet and allensfasteners.com they have some really good prices and are very good with shipping. Once i get them I just sit down and polish them up so they are ready when I need to install them.

Tonight I fired off the 57' for the first time! I am finally happy to hear some noise from the truck after over 12 years of sitting engineless. The engine runs on its own, but is running rough. The new carburetor needs a serious tuning and the timing requires adjusting. I have very little experience tuning engines and hope I can find someone locally who can lend a hand.

The engine is a 283cid with edelbrock carb & an HEI distributor.

That's great man! Wish I was a little closer, I'd come give you a hand. We got mine fired up a couple weekends ago. Really lights the fire under you, doesn't it?!?

Thanks guys! Yeah, I was able to arrange for a car buddy to come over tomorrow and "time" the engine properly with a light. As far as carb tuning........still looking to recruit someone for that.

Need an opinion: Edelbrock 600cfm carb on a mostly stock 283cid (its too much carb, I know). What would be some recommendations for tuning it to run the 283 efficiently? Different metering rods & smaller jets? Thanks

I finally was able to get the engine to run decent with the timing light. The engine idles in park and in gears just fine. The only thing I noticed is that in park the engine rpms jump slightly up and down. I hooked up a vacuum gauge to the intake........basically the engine is "hunting" between 12-15 Hg of vacuum while idling in park. I assume changing metering rods & jets will help calm this down? Any thoughts?

Here it is folks!!!! Finally drove it yesterday! Took me approx. 1 year to reassemble/build to this point. My wedding is just around the corner!
