2000 ,5.3 oil leak ?
My swap engine had a leak around the bottom (LH side). I believe the leak to be the pan gasket, or the bypass on the pan . The engine is on the stand now, so best time to cover all bases. I can get a Dorman rear cover, complete with seal installed, with bolts & gasket ($56). For a couple questions...does the rear cover gasket normally cause a problem with leaks? Also, would the GM parts be better for service, than any of the aftermarket pcs? 1 last question...do any of the autoparts chains rent the alignment tools for the covers? New to genIII, crazyL

Re: 2000 ,5.3 oil leak ?
Thanks, It looks like the Dorman kit would be the slick way to go I already have the GMPP (H-3 pan kit), that should cover the leaks. Still 1 question tho....can the alignment plate & doughnut for the seal be rented anwhere? crazyL

Re: 2000 ,5.3 oil leak ?
Up date! After some research, I opted for the GMPP cover assembly (# 12639250). It comes with seal installed, gasket, bolts, & has a plastic alignment tool already in the seal ($50 walk in @ the local dealer)! I may have to opt for, or fab the tool to align the bottom of the cover with the pan rails....nothing but a flat plate of steel & a few holes Just thought I would share what I believe will save some coin on tools....but am open for any /all suggestions. crazyL

A LS 4L60E or T56 bellhousing works great for the Oil Pan to Bellhousing alignment. |
