64-66 Recirculating Heater

I am going for a clean firewall look and have bought a recirculating heater to replace my Thrifty Heater. I looked in the shop and assembly manuals and did not find any installation instructions or pictures.

I would appreciate instructions, pictures or directions on how to mount the recirculating heater to the firewall. I know I have to drill another hole in the firewall to accommodate the core. Do I just drill a hole above the existing hole and then just line up and drill holes for the mounting studs? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks! It's pretty vague on the details. There are multiple pages on the delux/thrifty heaters. Hopefully someone can post some pics and details.

You will need the delete plates to cover the holes from the deluxe heater. I just did the conversion on my 63, and I understand there are some differences from 60-63 and 64-66, but I beleive the process is the same. The wiring harness is the same. My truck had the correct locations to mount the recirculating heater in the cab. I did not have to drill and holes. I left the diverter box in place and swapped out the main unit only. This way you dont have to mess with the defrost hoses. In my application, I went from 4 levers (deluxe) to 2 (standard) so I also left the dash insert alone. Hook up your heater hoses and the cable to the diverter and your ready to go. Its actually fairly easy, especially once you get the old unit out of the way.

Guess there are differences between the 60-63 and 64-66. I have no holes in the location where the heater would mount so I am going to have to line up the top core inlet through the existing hole and then drill the other core hole then drill where the mounting studs go through the firewall. I took care of the delete plates by just welding in some 16 gauge metal and smoothed it out. Seemed a little over the top to spend $60-$80 for delete plates when I could just weld a piece in and make it disappear. Probably a preference thing.

I'd like to find one! My truck has the Deluxe heather in it. I'd like to clean up the fire wall as well.

I have the dimensions on the holes that I pulled from a 62. I drilled them in my 66 cab and fit a recirculating heater before I decided to go back to the deluxe. If you can wait until friday when im back home I can post up.

Would really love to get those dimensions. Almost ready to prime the firewall so would be great to get the holes drilled first.
