shifter dilemma

I'm doing a 6.0/4l80 swap into my 68 lwb. Currently has an 87 sbc and an np435 with a floor shifter. The column in my truck is a three on the tree. Is it easier/ cheaper to either swap columns from a later model or should I try to use a lokar auto floor shifter? Does anyone have experience with those in a 4l80? Any idea whether it will work with a bench seat? I'll try to get some pics of my current setup up later tonight. It has been swapped from manual to power steering but I don't know what the donor parts are from.

Re: shifter dilemma

I used a generic stainless tilt column, but went with a floor shifter for my 4l80e. I have a Kiludff shifter, a little less common to find. I didn't want to mess with finding/pulling/cleaning/re-wiring a column.

Re: shifter dilemma

Does the linkage come with it? And how far back/forward is it in the cab? Any idea how bad it would be with a bench seat?

Re: shifter dilemma

I cant add much other than to avoid the B&M megashifter if you do go with a floor shift. I have one in my 72 and its a piece of junk. In fact, I'm going to a cable operated column shift pretty soon (original auto column). It works well enough with the bench seat but getting in and out of the middle seat takes some flexibility.

It was a breeze to install, though. A few holes in the floor, pass through the firewall, and layout the cable how it is shown in the manual.

Re: shifter dilemma

The kilduff Shifter uses the b&m style cable. I had the b&m. Shifter for a while, and there isnt anything really wrong with it, even with a bench seat. Only real problem is adjusting it to hit all the points on a 4l.80, since most are made for the 60, which is common to a lot of Shifter.
Billet, I have install pictures in my build.
