I've just put on my hedders and am planning on a duel system with a H or X pipe and Borla Sportsman XR-1 mufflers. I am thinking about 3" pipe, I want it to have a deep sound but not too extremely loud. Should I go with 2 1/2" instead to quiet it down or will 3" be OK?

3" is way too big for a stock goodwrench 350. 2.5" is the biggest size i would use....it will sound really deep and throaty. Still, 2.25" is more well suited for a nearly stock engine, but 2.5" will provide you with a deeper and throatier sound

is your truck a LWB or a SWB? if its LWB, look at Hooker for a bolt on exhaust system. i've got one on my 86 and i love it. its 2 1/4" BTW.

3" will sound pretty damned mean, but you can say goodbye to torque. A 350 really doesnt need anything over 2.5", going overboard on exhaust diameter is one of my pet peeves.

There was some guy at my HS with a fake 70 Chevelle SS and a full 3" exhaust setup with 1 chamber flowmasters. It was only a little 350, he thought that thing was the sh!t... I just laughed at him. If you want a meaner sounding setup, build a meaner motor.

i'll be using my current 2.5" exhaust for my new engine. holley says there head kit i'm getting will make about 425hp on a 350 w/ 10:1 comp.

later on i'll be getting some aero chambers. would 3" pipe be overboard for 400 or so hp?

The local hotrod exhaust guy installed 2 1/4" manfold mounted duals on my 305 c10 and it sound awsome and it's also far more responsive now too.

A single 3" pipe for a stock 350 shouldnt be too much.
But dual 3" pipes would be too much.
