You wont believe this!

http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoram...160911547.html

Some where in Nebraska a longtime Chevrolet dealership over the years held onto a treasure trove of NEW 60/s cars and a few trucks.

This coming September they are going to auction these items off.

Sure wish I could get ahold of one of their auction catalogs.

AMAZING....and true.

Re: You wont believe this!

I just saw the video. Amazing!!

Unfortunately, the video I saw showed the same 6 cars over and over. I would really like to see the 1964 trucks. Just imagine how many restoration questions that those vehicles could answer.

I'm really curious if the auction house is going to detail the cars or sell them as-is? Many collectors would freak out if somebody washed all the dirt off, believe it or not. They prefer to keep them in their "as found" condition.

Re: You wont believe this!

heres the auctioneers website with a good read on the owner, i says alot of the 500 or more cars that are on the farm are trade in vehicles that the owner stashed there:

I wonder if I could win the lottery between now and then because I'm pretty sure those vehicles are gonna demand a premium!

Re: You wont believe this!

Holy sh.., without even looking deeply into the inventory, there appears to be a whole bunch of NEW '64 pickups in the mix. I can hardly wait to find out if they were preserved or just left out to rot. This frankly is mind blowing stuff.

Isn't it though. Looks to be a mix of parked inside and also left out to rot...that's the part that gets me. Sooo many nice-at-one-time rides just parked out in the pasture in the weather . Quite the time capsule though!

OEM, I know you're thinking that there's a burb middle mat squirreled away somewhere in that old dealership...

Re: You wont believe this!

Hopefully somebody gets the chance to take plenty of photos, especially photos Chevy never used in their sales literature. I' am talking engine colors, bellhousing colors, transmission colors. Decals and tags under the hood would also be helpful in those trying to pull off a concourse type restoration. Its hard to believe a dealership would hold on to vehicles and pay the invoice for each vehicle, nothings is free, even dealerships have to pay GM.

Reading on other sites, it looks like the ones left outside were dealership trade ins, the new ones were kept inside.

I am going to try and get the auction catalog at a minimum. Might even try to convince my wife that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to attend.

If there is any way that I can swing it...I will be there.

Re: You wont believe this!

Looks like they've got a few other auctions on their website of massive car discoveries.. Most of the cars are ho-hum--but look like some nice projects.. The couple of 62-64 Chevy full-size cars would be great projects.. But--I think a large majority of the cars will get sold for little $$..

Re: You wont believe this!

Do you think that any of those 64-66 c10's will sell at reasonable prices??? I would be hoping for $500-$1000. Most appear to be I6's. If they have been sitting outside for 40-50 years I would be concerned about extreme rot. Does any one know what the rust is like in Nebraska? I know if it were in Michigan there would be nothing left but the headlights. Also, is anyone going to make the journey out there for this?

Re: You wont believe this!

sounds cool, but from what I understand is that a majority of the cars have been stripped. I spoke to a couple of people that live in the area and they are familiar with that group of cars. Most were parked in a field and the ones on the edge of the field have been seriously stripped and parted. Rust and rot is an issue on a great deal more. From what I understand only a few are complete and fewer still, still run.

But on the plus side, who could argue with being the first registered owner of a 50 year old car/truck.

A very cool story either way. Just something you don't hear about every day.

I would say probably not. Everyone in the car hobby knows about this auction. That will probably translate into a lot of interested bidders.

Best thing to do with those, clean them up, and put them right back into storage. Wouldn't even spin them over.

This is everyone's dream find time on steroids, so there will be no shortage of interest. As far as prices... realistically, who's going to let a 50 year old truck with five miles on it go for $500? Answer: Nobody, unless of course that truck is stripped of parts and completely rotten from the bottom up. At that point the milage is of no help. 5 miles and rotten is the same as 100,000 miles and rotten.

Re: You wont believe this!

5 miles means it should have a good speedometer for parts at least.....

Re: You wont believe this!

I plan on attending! Who knows what things will go for as this auction is in the middle of nowhere (over 3 hours from the nearest city)... I'd "live post" the event but I doubt I'll have cell coverage. I'll take some pictures and will definitely let you guys know what things went for!
