327 differences

There's been some chatter lately regarding 327s in the 66 trucks. Does anyone know the difference between the "High Torque" 327 from the 66 C20s and a regular 327 from an Impala or a Corvette? Is the truck engine built differently than a car engine and does it really have higher torque (and, presumably, lower RPMs)? Different power band? Lower/higher red line?

Also, when did GM introduce the 327? Wasn't it prior to 1966 in the cars?

Re: 327 differences

It was introduced in 1962 but was not used in C10 till 1966 or C20 in 1965 and 1966.

Main difference Ive seen are the small valve heads, most the blocks are the 174 casting for 66, yet to see a 180 casting in a 66 truck. 174 castings were used in Impala Chevelle and Corvette also.

You will gain low end torque with the smaller valves but will suffer at higher rpm, im sure camshaft plays a part in that also. Several other small differences.
