I've got a 72 GMC 3/4 ton and am looking to convert it to 4wd. The donor truck I have found is a 73 3/4 ton. Does anyone know how much difference there is between the 2 trucks as for frame, spring perchs, and axle. I need to act on this donor cause it is still complete. I will go look at it tomorrow.

If you plan on a body lift, you could just transplant your body onto that chassis.

I was planning to install the leafs, axle, steering box, tranny and t-case from the 73. Do you know if the frames changed much between 72 to 73?

Yes they did...quite a bit. But if you do a body lift...then you can get by with it.
Do you have the LMC catalog with the red 67 stepside 4X4 on the black-ish back ground? That is a 67 on a 73 - 87 chassis. It belongs to a boardmember here...67mudder.

I have a similar interest as justplainjoe's conversion. Joe, I would be curious how it goes. Could someone expand on the body lift aspect? What is in the way? How much lift? thanks everyone.

I used a body lift becasue I had a low hump (2wheel cab). With a high hump I could have done away with a lot of the body lift. I believe you will have to use some to keep the body lines straight with the differences in the frames.

Do most of the body mounts line up or do you have to fab new mounts?

You have to fab new ones. The cab you use the older mounts and mount to the outside of the frame. (The newer trucks cab mounts are on the inside of the frame).
