Is this truck worth $1700?
there is a truck for sale here locally. thinking about buying it to drive in the winter, and maybe steal a few parts off of it for my other truck. guy wants 1700. here are the details:
1967 Chvrolet C-10 CST. Features include long wide bed, panoramic (big) back window cab, factory power steering, factory power brakes, factory speed warning, was a factory interior cab optioned a different color than exterior(yellow and white outside, metallic green inside), CST trim optioned, 327 cid. small block, turbocharged with Martin turbo system, TH400 automatic transmission, 3:50 rear gear ratio To make this truck nice you would need to buy some interior, finish sanding some of the body in spots only and finish adjusting panels, rebuild engine, paint, new springs for the front and new bumpers and chrome. here are some pics. what do you guys think?

i am not familar with the turbo system. what do you guys think that motor would put out? I was thinking about just doing some small things with it, then getting a Maaco paint job.

i havent looked at it in person. the only reason why i wouldnt buy it is because the motor needs to be rebuilt, and i am not looking to throw a lot of money into rebuilding the motor.

It should have buckets if it's a CST. (67 rule only.)
I'd say if the body is a solid as it looks it's not a bad deal. What's that Martin Turbo? Is that a vintage part?

Definately worth the money.
I paid $480 for my 67 c-10 stepside but without engine and tranny and the floors and rockers need replacing along with lots of other little things. I'm partial to the stepside but if I had to choose between the two I would have shelled out $1700 for that without a second thought. I would jump on it quick though. I've lost out on good deals like that hours after they were put up for sale. |

Be careful on the turbo. That looks like a pretty old design of kit. Lubrication, warm up and cool down are all very significant in the life of a turbo and the engine it's attached to. You'd want to have that turbo checked out by a good turbo shop before trusting it. Retrofitting up to something water cooled would improve reliability too. Don't get me wrong turbo's are great but only when some good engineering, design and tuning go into the setup. Turbo engines running any significant boost are typically built for it as well just like any good blower motor..........a turbo is just an exhaust driven centrifugal supercharger.
And ya it's probably worth the 1700 if the body is solid.

here is some more info:
The overall condition is fair on this truck. The body is actually very decent, there is no rust. It runs and drives decent I did use it to commute to work each day. The body work is nearly done and ready for paint. The engine runs decent but has a lot of mileage on it and needs to be rebuilt. The turbo system gives the 327 6 lbs. boost and makes it fun to drive. The suspension needs front springs, the rear springs and rear shocks are new, the steering works great, the brakes were recently replaced and they work great. There is a new 2 1/2" to 3" custom exhaust for the turbo set up with a flowmaster muffler. The tires are almost new with low milage. The seat has good foam and was recovered once it could use it again. There is no carpet or visors. The door panels and dash pad are driver worthy, the dash bezel is driver worthy. Windshield is cracked but rest of glass is good. Have a new heater control assembly to go with the truck as a lever is broken on the one in it. Have both inner fenders as they are off the truck from working on it and have one new drivers side inner fender. No bumpers. The electrical all works good. The rubber throughout the cab needs replacement

sounds nice... but I'm going to say you probobly don't want to "borrow" parts off of it for another truck. A truck like that needs to be kept intact IMO.
High milage doesn't mean it needs rebuilt... seems odd that he says it runs good but needs rebuilt due to milage. Go out and look at it and see if you'd like it. If you don't want to deal with it consider letting someone have it who does want to fix it up. If you get a motor with a turbo, you want to let the motor warm up before driving it, and you'll need to let the motor sit and cool down before shutting it down (this can mean 5-10 minutes before and after driving). The turbo will also help for maintaining power in higher elevations. |
