3 speed Overdrive guys need some help!
Ok, I had my OD trans in for about a year. played with the OD awhile back trying to get it wired up and working but do to other things going on I never finished it.
I used Gianyveedub wiring diagram below, but it still never worked. here is a older thread of the od wiring http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=313886&page=2 I then cleaned the solenoid with contact cleaner and a wire brush and then i could hear it click on and off with using the switch. not really sure what to do; only thing i guess i could do is take the cover off the governor and clean that too. I really want this to work or it will be a TKO 5 speed going in. I rather have the 3 speed OD for the stock/vintage factor.

NCD:
If your wiring were correct, solenoid would only click on and off when the truck was over 25 miles an hour (that is when the governor closes). If it is solenoid clicking on and off, you don't have the relay wired correctly. Governor is supposed to ground the relay which then closes the 12V to the solenoid. The governor is easy to check off the truck. If you unscrew it, you can spin it on the gear side with a variable speed drill. When it spins up, you should find that it closes to ground which you can check with an ohm meter. Take it apart and clean the contacts in it. A lot of them get oil accumulated inside over the years. A few still pop up on Ebay for sale if you need a new one. Hope this helps. regards, Steve New Orleans |

hmm, sounds like i dont have it wired correctly. I can turn on and off the switch with the truck parked and I can hear it clicking.
If I have the truck running I cant hear it my truck is kinda loud with the cam

If the solenoid clicks, sounds like that is working. Do you have the cable hooked up to engage the OD ? Cable pushed in, flip the switch and at over 30 mph back off the gas and you should feel the OD kick in, then step on the gas again.

I would have to look at my relay, but I have 12V from the battery going to it as well. That way, I don't have all the voltage for the solenoid going through the key switch. The key switch is turning the relay on an off, but the voltage for the load is coming from the battery with 12v. With my set up, the clicking of the solenoid doesn't occur until 25 MPH when the governor closes. At 25MPH after I hear the click, I back off on the gas pedal and the transmission shifts to overdrive. Then I reapply the pedal and I am in second gear with overdrive. Recheck your wiring on your relay. Here is another site with diagrams: http://www.classictruckshop.com/club...cts/how_to.htm Regards, Steve New Orleans |

Whoops. I missed your red wire with 30- amps. That is battery. You have the same set up that I do. I would have to check my terminals to see if they correspond to the terminals on the relay that you are using. You may be able to find one online to verify.

Re: 3 speed Overdrive guys need some help!
slorio, so your solenoid wont click until over 25 mph, correct?
mine will click with the truck not even moving/engine turn off with ignition on. only thing i have different is I have a light built in on my switch, I have a ground coming off the switch for the light to work. maybe i'll change the switch with one without a light. Might be grounding through the switch instead of the governor. I think I'm going to retrace my wiring make sure i dont have something mess up.

slorio, so your solenoid wont click until over 25 mph, correct? Correct. At 25, the governor closes, grounds the relay which closes the solenoid.
