Is This a Stock 52 Chevy Bumperguard?

I removed this Bumper Guard off the 3800 last nite and wirebrushed it. We can't decide if we want to put it on our 3600 build. Son thinks it is "gawdy". I think it is cool! Opinion?
Is this an original Chevy piece or possibly an aftermarket add-on?

I'd say aftermarket or dealer add on. The ones out here had more squarish uprights and crossbars with a ribbed design but the set you have may have come from a vendor in your region as it seems that a lot of 40's and 50's dealer add on stuff seemed to come from regional manufactures or dealers.

Good looking grill guard that would look great on a fully restored stock truck or great on a fully decked out lowrider truck. And they do protect your nice shiny grill.

My ongoing truck projects:
48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six.
71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

I have looked at 100's of stock truck pics and have not seen these yet. They are made of very very heavy gauge metal, which lends me to believe they were maybe a dealer option. Chrome is almost totally gone and the 3 bars show numerous pitting. I wish they could reasonably be rechromed, but with the pitting.......

If you decide not to run it, someone will fall in love with it at some time or other and it will be good trading material or swap meet material.

Thought about that, or ebay'n it, but I usually just tend to hang things like it on the shop wall as a sovenir. But I sure would like to see a finished original truck with one on.

I have seen many of that style on e-bay while looking for my 47 gmc bumper guard. I dont know if original but can be had in decent shape if you want another one.

If I could determine it is an actual GM part, I would keep it, just to hang on the wall. If it is aftermarket.........
If it were not pitted so bad, I would look into re-chroming it and try it on for looks.

It is period correct. I have taken ones like it off AD series truck I'm not sure it an actual GM part. I'm thinking it was a dealer add on.

Re: Is This a Stock 52 Chevy Bumperguard?

So, dealer add-ons were not or might not have been a factory option or GM part?

Just like rear bumpers of many 70's and 80's trucks.
