Square Diesel 4X4 Burb Mileage???

I am looking at a 4X4 burb with the diesel. What kind of mileage can I expect to get on a factory setup? Are there any upgrades that make it get better mileage?

Should get 18-22,maybe 24 mpg,if it's got overdrive. A couple few less without that, unless you drive slower. But,at least 18.

You can have the injection pump tuned as well, either for mileage or power. We had an '83 when I was a kid that had the pump worked, and it would click off 22 all day long with a TH400, 31's and 3.42 gears. I loved that truck.

Re: Square Diesel 4X4 Burb Mileage???

2wd may get a couple better MPG. These motors are all about torque,so not many factors detract from the mileage. They don't work harder till you add a lot of drag/weight. My '91 3/4t 4wd had 4.10s,4L80E,and 12.50/35-16 mud tires on 10" steel wheels and got 22mpg with 1000# of tools/cargo

Even with 4x4 they're good on fuel. They take a square from thirsty beast to pretty economical as far as full sized trucks go, even against the new stuff.

Yep,they're the classic 4wd that makes sense for today...better than many new trucks...even with big tires!!
