IROC Rear Sway Bar

Ran into a slight issue with the installation of the rear sway bar.

My short bed is lowered 4" in the back using ECE drop coils and I have the extended center link installed.

I'm trying to put the bar on top the axle, end links forward but the bar hits on the round mount for the old center link. Did anyone else have this problem& did you jsut use a sawzall to modify the round mount?

Has anyone else with a 4" drop had success story to share on this modification?

Re: IROC Rear Sway Bar

I put mine under the axle. Doing so also helped avoid frame interference issues.

Mine is installed just as Andy illustrated here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=304267

69_halfton details his own install here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=257721 He had also considered mounting it above the axle but ultimately decided to move it to underneath.

Re: IROC Rear Sway Bar

I didnt have a problem with it hitting the round apart but you may have clearence/travel issues with your truck lowered ,if you look in my build thread , i put it on top like your doing but when i bagged my truck i moved it up the trailing arms , and it gets flipped over goes under the driveline and theres no need for spacers on the frame since the frame gets wider up the trailing arms more works out better if your lowering your truck then over the axle...in my build thread it shows both ways, Somebody else on the forum told me how to do it ,and if you ever plan on relocating your shocks to the rear of the axle its out of the way for that also.....you wont have much travel going over the axle with the swaybar and where the frame rails are with a lowered truck(especially with no c-notch) since the swaybar adds to the height of the axle....

Re: IROC Rear Sway Bar

Reyals Bemus & LostHope, Thanks guys for your feedback. Both your solutions look great & very functional. I'll do some more rolling around under the truck to see which I can get in place.

LostHope, How thick did your spacers measure?

Reyals, How far forward of the U bolt did you mount the sway bar? Do both bolts for the bushing retainer mount through the same side of the swing arm?

I'm using this bushing kit but might look for some longer end links. (Prothane 7-1131-BL Black 23 mm Rear Sway Bar Bushing Kit) Picked it up on Amazon for $31.30 delivered.

Re: IROC Rear Sway Bar

I'm curious if anyone who has done this mod has posted their before and after results? I like a good handling vehicle, and if this mod is worthwhile, then I'm definitely interested in doing it to my '64.

Re: IROC Rear Sway Bar

Reyals, Thanks, I used your advice & mounted to the swing arms. I have not driven it yet but will let you know how it works.
