Ignition Bezel - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am sure this is a dumb question but, how in the heck do I ge tthe ignition out of the dash? I have unscrewed the bezel, but won't come out. It acts like it is stripped, is there another latch or clip I am missing?

So you need to get the key cylinder out? Put you key in the ingnition. Turn the key to AUX (I think it is AUX, if not, I'm sure someone will correct me). Then put a paperclip into the little hole in the face plate by the key. You should be able to pull the whole thing out. Sometimes it takes some monkeying around but eventually it will come out.

Tried the paperclip thing with no luck. I am really only trying to swap out the chrome bezel on the front of the ignition, and it just won't come off. I am sure a sawzall will fix it....

I ran into the same problem. I believe you need to remove the lock cylinder in order for the bezel to come loose. The chrome cap on the lock cylinder actually prevents the bezel from being removed.

I had the same problem but it was before I knew about this board. I forced the whole thing appart and bough new pieces. I figured it was a good idea to change the key cylinder anyway since I didn't know how many previous owners still had keys.

bouncytruck, You forgot to mention that he needed to depress the spring loaded butten with the paper clip, then continue to turn the key counter clockwise. Then pull the ignition lock out.... WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

New bezels are around $3 and you can get a new lock cylindar for around $9 at any autoparts store. Most of the catalogs have lock sets that use the same key for the doors and the ignition too. I don't have a catalog in front of me so I'm not sure how much those are.

its about 23 for matching ignition and door locks.
i just pulled hard to get it off... and the key lock wouldnt come out of the switch so i just bought a new switch and lock. and had to shave the lock cylinder with my grinder to get the bezel to go over oh

I think I just used a pair of vice grips and a screw driver. I twisted and turned until it finally came off. There were signs that POs attempted the same thing. The bezel was all banged up so I was planning on getting a new one anyway.
