limit straps for airbags?

How many of you here use limit straps for your airbag installs? I'm actually not concerned with limiting out the bags or shocks when driving as I can't really see that happening, but more so I'm concerned with pulling the bags apart when putting the truck on a hoist. I have a drive-on hoist but its going to a shop shortly for a government mandated 'safety check' before I can get permanent tags on it, and they only have a 2post.

I am running SS7 bags, ECE rear shock re-locators and kyb shortened shocks from ECE. I haven't 'tested' to see if the shock limits out before stretching the bag too much. thoughts?

thanks

Re: limit straps for airbags?

I know I've read of some straps being used. I've seen SS cable cut to length w/crimped barbs to secure the loops & they were bolted to the frame/bag mounts. Another similar set-up used the nylon straps for tying down a vehicle on a trailer.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: limit straps for airbags?

Whenever I lift my truck up to work on it, and the suspension is drooped all the way down, I just leave about 10-15 PSI in the bags. This keeps them from stretching and pulling the rubber in an odd way. It keeps the bag round.

Re: limit straps for airbags?

its not really a concern. if you run shocks with a same stroke as your bags then you already have a limiter. but, your bags can handle being stretched. ALL BAGS will get small cracks around the cups when they hang and it is totally normal. they still have the radial woven between the rubber for support. I wouldnt leave the truck up in the air for days at a time without supporting the axles but it will be perfectly fine during inspections.

I've always heard the sleeve/rolling sleeve type bags cannot be over extended or they'll fail.

The key thing to consider is failure from over extension might be dependant on the type of bag. Always check w/the manufacturer for their recommendations....

On sleeve bags for overload set-ups only bolt to the frame, and use a c channel to slip over the leaf.

Re: limit straps for airbags?

I have firestone 9000s in the rear and made sure when I built it that my shock mounts were such that the shocks would limit the bags from over extending. You need some kind of limiter with a sleeve bag
