np205 to 4l60e odd year
I am picking up a 1995 tahoe to take the engine/trans and put in my 72 jimmy. Ive done some searching on here and noticed that advanced adapters makes the kit to mate up my np205 to a 4l60. But noticed it leaves out years 93-95. I did an online search and noticed 95 is an only year transmission.
Can anyone tell me whats different about the 93-95's. Or will a 96 kit work? Or when doing this swap do I need to "dumb it down" to a 92 year pcm and transmission?

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
A 4L60 is a mechanically shifted transmission.
In 1993, pickups became electrically shifted (4L60e). In 1995 the torque converter clutch became computer pulse width modulated. I believe in 1996, the case changed to a bolt-on bell housing and 6 bolt extension housing. AA leaves out the 93-95 because that adapter has no provisions for the VSS sensor to shift the transmission. edit: you might be able to use adapter 50-8505 and adapt a VSS to it. This might require the engine to be moved forward and the transfer case moved back to accomodate the extra length.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
If its just the vss, I could install one of the inline cable to electric pulse vss gadgets. I thought I would have to do that anyway.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
I'm starting to think the little gas I could save having over drive.... I could buy A LOT of gas for the 1000bux it would cost to get this trans in there. Then if I do electronic, id really really like to do the 4l80e. I think I may wait and do this later. I just need this thing back to moving on its own power.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
If you already have the motor and transmission I don't think it would cost $1000 to transplant it into your Jimmy.
But it depends on your skill level.

What trans did you have the np205 on before?

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
The kit is 700'ish dollars, plus taking the trans to a shop to have them install the main shaft.
I currently have a th350 |

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
correct, I have looked at that several times. That kit is around 700bux. It is also not listed specifically for a 95 model. They show nothing for 95, so it makes me wonder what all I would have to do.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
That kit is meant for a 6 bolt extension housing case ('96 and up)
Your's has four like a 700R4/4L60 You want a 50-6900. Then a means to add a VSS. Perhaps something like this pulse generator can be adapted to the NP205

Its a out put shaft that goes in the trans,Basicly you have to almost rebuild the trans to put it in tho.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
What about like running a np241 temp tell you save up to run the 4l80e np205 like you want in the end.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
I still have the cost of buying that tc. Then likely having driveshafts made, plus figuring out how to shift it(isn't that an electric one?).

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
I think its a floor shifter i know it was used in the later k5 blazers 88-91,And i think it was carried over in the 88-98 body style trucks as well.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
You got me to go pull up a picture. If this is correct, looks like the front driveshaft is on the drivers side, not passenger.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
What about a np208 it was used 81-87 and even came factory on a 700r4 so the swap might be bolt on for you.Its not a bad t case if you don't run anything over 37s or hardcore off road.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
This looks like an easy enough modification VSS in a NP205. That is, if you know someone with machine tools.
You'd lose your cable driven speedo though.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
Andrew, I dont mind switching cases. But again, any other case I put in this requires me buying the case, and whatever for driveshafts. Potentially costing as much or more.
Bigdav, I did come across that google searching. I like it. But I actually need digital and cable driven. So I think the jegsthatrun vss device is going to be my best bet. I just need to find out if the ecm needs the 8000ppm or less. |

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
Don't take it to the bank but I think GM PCM's need 4000 ppm.
The output shaft isn't that hard to install with a little coaching. If the trans is on a bench I can have it out and in within 30 minutes.

Re: np205 to 4l60e odd year
I was thinking it was either 2000 or 4000.
Wish you lived closer, you'd have a few extra bills in your pocket. |
