advice

I've got an '85 Scottsdale with a blown V6 and bad tranny. Should I put a 350 back in or rebuild/replace the V6. It'll be a daily driver-so I'm on budget, but I'd still like to have a good runner. What would you all suggest?

Re: advice

For what it would cost to overhaul them both you should be able to find a running v-8 engine and transmission combo for less. A whole lot of time saved as well. My .02.

Re: advice

Daily driver in the city traffic or good distance running? A friend sent me this link on a 350 for $1300 with free shipping. Probably need a core or a charge is added.

Good engine rebuild and tranny will cost at least $1500-$2000.

Call a local engine builder. Sometimes they have engines owners don't pay for. Shops will sell them for cost of parts and labor. You may find a great deal on one.

Re: advice

I would look around for a good running beat up parts truck, for a donor. There is a beat to crap 88 here local, with 50-60k on the engine and trans for 800.00. I plan to pick it, just incase I need it. LOL.

Re: advice

I switched 6 to 8 and didn't look back(cept to see the dust lol)
you might save some gas with it (6) but not with a bad running V6
over a better running V8
I'd take the 8, less pedal pushin

Re: advice

yeah, that makes sense. I have a 350 in my '70 and love it. That's the way I'll go.

Re: advice

I have a pretty decent 350 in D/FW that needs a home, too. It has about 15K on the rebuild, with Vortec heads, aluminum intake, accessories, headers, etc. $1000 and you can drop it in and go.

Re: advice

If I had to start over or my next carb project, I would go this route!
