If you need any further assistance with that please contact any Admin for The side bracket holes I mentioned.. not 100% sure this is the original gate, maybe why no holes are present for the catch (hatch latch thing)? and it seems to have had a tailgate protector on it? Maybe Bouncytruck? or anyone?

Re: Please help 1971 Jimmy
I am missing the same pieces, and need to redo my hatch assembly as well. Just haven't made it that far.

Re: Please help 1971 Jimmy
Your tail gate is missing the metal strip that attaches to it. I have posted pics of the side brackets a few weeks ago. Easiest way is to look up posts by me. I dont have a pic handy of the hatch handle area. Thesee parts are only available used.

Re: Please help 1971 Jimmy
I just realized my missing pieces are related..lol
Not too familiar with the top on this thing, we had it redone by a corvette shop and now we are down to finishing it up this is the problem. I had never even noticed the catches on sides of hatch , it just looked like something was missing and I assumed it latched in the middle, but its just a cover missing. Thank you BrianK, I know what they are supposed to look like now.

Re: Please help 1971 Jimmy
There is an oval plate that goes over the latch internals there. The plate is bent or contoured to the angle of the hatch. I'm sure you could get by fabing something up there to work.

Re: Please help 1971 Jimmy
Here's the tailgate top metal strip - not critical but driving without one makes for a noisy ride from the hatch wiggling back and forth.
