Rocker and patch panel question

I replaced my outer floor sections that were rotted and I mocked up my rockers and noticed there was a gap between the top of the rocker and the floor. Is this normal with these aftermarket floor panels, I know it should be spot welded to the floor but I don't know if I should put a strip of metal in there or just force it down the 1/8 of an inch.

I am assuming a lot here. You didn't say what you are working on, burb?, C10 maybe?, but I'm thinking it will be pretty much the same for all. The rocker has a curved upper lip and you can slip your fingers under the edge. Here is my PS rocker before I removed it. It's the only shot I have of the PS that shows anything decent.

Here's a view from inside the cab with a bunch of dirt down in the groove.

This is what I mean, the rocker is supposed to be spot welded to the floor but there is 1/4" gap there.

Not sure what you got going on there with that gap. That's not what I had. You are correct, the spot welds are like in these on mine.

Re: Rocker and patch panel question

I think I figured it out, the new floor pieces are not bent quite properly. They drop away on an angle instead of being bent true. If you were to bend it up however it would then shorten the bend to the inner rocker piece throwing that out. Just poor stamping is all.

Chip Foose says its the fabrication and the mods you don't see that make the build. You should cut the entire floor out and raise it to the rocker. It would be like a subtle body drop that would set it off.

Re: Rocker and patch panel question

Sounds like you got it sorted, but I thought I'd offer my 2 cents. I ran into this issue on my truck when replacing the inner/outer rockers. I ended up bending the bottom lip of the outer rocker up to meet the bottom edge of the inner rocker. For me that's what matched the lower edge of the rear cab corners and lower fenders best. Best of luck!

Re: Rocker and patch panel question

I had the same problem I ended up cutting the spot welds on the end of rocker and kept forcing it in till the inner fit like it was suppose to. Oh well it's on there now..
